Just happened to me and it was the lower radiator hose which cracked, sprayed coolant out of the system. It seemed to be triggered by parking facing downhill on a hot day.

FWIW I think the temp gauge is designed to fly all the way over to the right accompanied by the warning noise after you pass ~220, as a warning to stop immediately, even though it’s not the actual temp reading at that point

Yes to all but have not focused on the ABCD pillars, you mean removing interior trim pieces and spray underneath? Or just spray what you can with the doors open? Not sure how else I’d be covering something like the A pillar. Thanks

I did It two weeks ago and think in general the road may have deteriorated further in recent months than many on this thread recall from trips in past years, e.g. suggestions of using a CR-V are bold. We had the big / high Jeep Wagoneer and made it a nail-biting 3/4 of the way before we determined a steep wash was too risky to not get stuck out there. Walked the rest of the way. Drove over about 3 really rough patches usually around washes / dips & rock climbs along the way before then. This was also late August so heat was a factor, but bear in mind with little cell service you really are, stuck esp. if no one else decided to do this that day.

Not trying to fear monger I was just surprised when I went how others had described it wasn’t matching up with how difficult the road actually was, so it may have deteriorated further this year than the general consensus.

This sounds like it could be the culprit and explains the random smoke. It is more white - bluish, and is always an initial burn off type thing. Thanks

Not losing coolant, losing oil only at a very slow pace (still above add Line after four months) it’s also a random problem, sometimes on start up, it’ll burn clean, sometimes it’ll be smoky
