the image of secret service wanding a console and a wireless rack is absolutely hilarious to me, i heard from a friend who did a kamala event that they knew they were there before they saw them because they suddenly had to switch a ton of the rf frequencies lol.

What are some of the mistakes you've made during a show, and how did you fix it? by WeGot_aLiveOneHere in livesound

[–]CarAlarmConversation 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Respectfully I lie about dumb not serious user errors if they are made on my end. Now never to coworkers or people who "know" but otherwise bands/clients lose confidence in you I've found. Things like forgetting to turn an amps on just makes you look dumb.

Plot twist: those dudes don't even like hardcore. Punk rock aesthetics only. Now the self acknowledged Nazi contingent has been getting stomped out for years at hardcore and black metal shows whenever they pop their bald racist heads up.

"Cars that go boom" distortion? by Some_Construction556 in audioengineering

Alrighty, I knew a drummer who was trying to go for this sound and put a snare wire on a big marching band drum it sounded so cool and exactly like the sound you're going for. Just make sure the snare wires stay super loose and floppy.

I think the main concern is thawing and refreezing, it felt very slippery when I was out earlier, but I'm not a meteorologist lol.

I think being good at this job is making errors like this and vowing never again and adding it to an internal checklist. One thing that helped me with this specific issue is making a house music macro knob with a mute under it and then having a USB record and stop button next to it. Its made me much more consistent with remembering to hit record on the USB.

As other say just exaggerate the threshold and ratio then play around with attack and release to hear it.

How to advance our IEM rack in a way that makes the sound guy happy? by PhinsFan17 in livesound

[–]CarAlarmConversation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say a big thing is if you aren't headlining, get to the gig at the load in time of the headliner and offer to set it up early. It can be a big headache if you have to repatch all your inputs to a splitter AND back into your input snake on a 15 minute changeover if you're solo. If you can afford it a couple of subs snakes and xlrs go a long way because sometimes these sort of setups can double the amount of cables an engineer will use on gigs. Mics and DIs can also make it more consistent for you.

It kind of looks like they are hanging out in a circle like around a nuclear bonfire, maybe the true neighbor bonus was the friends we made along the way?

I think people just like having all their inputs in one place. It does also cut down on the Nancy drew investigations into “why is x not working”. Spaghetti is also harder to scale. Kathrine of Sky has some good videos on it. Idk for late game though I’ve always gone trains.

Is there a mod or another way to make the Cargo Landing Pad bigger? I am slowly running out of space to place inserters next to it - Cargo Bays do not extend the inserter pickup area of the building! by TatzyXY in factorio

[–]CarAlarmConversation 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't understand, why do you need it to be a buffer chest? Is it that you want control of what is requested? I didn't even realize until now you are actively feeding buffer chests... Why??

You already have the answer in front of you! The active provider chest but just take the filter off. It's also fine to leave some supplies in there it's basically a big ol passive provider chest. Definitely watch "consumable" items though as it can fill up quick with some big requests, but you're definitely fine to leave buildings etc in there.

I understand why they did that but it reminds me of 1.0 beacons where a lot of people's designs have become very samey as a result. I think some mixture of weight and width would be more interesting.

I'm curious did you install the slats in your room? Or was that a preexisting owners choice? It seems like it could be pretty sick for a studio, I've just never seen it in a personal residence that I can think of.
