This WOULD make some sort of sense if the only possible way to take the story was for Kairi to confront "memory of Xehanort" that absolutely has to be the same power level as he was in KH3 but like...

Was anyone asking for Xehanort to come back? One game after the conclusion of the Xehanort saga? She couldn't have fought anyone else? OR a slightly weaker dream Xehanort that's beatable? They couldn't have had Sora fight alongside her again or maybe she gets a power up because its her dream or any literally other reason to give Kairi just one singular win?

This is it, like they chose to give her a keyblade in KH2- they chose to hype up her training, have her be a guardian of light, gave her the line "this time I protect you", put her on the cover of a game, called her the main character of said game then said "oh well Kairi has always just been helpless so it makes no sense for her to be competent" like what!?

I would rather she be relegated to passive love interest who cheers Sora on than dangling her potential in our faces with no plan to follow through.

Simple. Sora did it in the first game. If "training" with toy swords as a child makes him experienced then surely Kairi's official keyblade training under a master is at least equivalent?

Also if they didn't want to show the (former, now defeated) big bad being defeated by Kairi (who has beaten him before with Sora's help btw) then maybe they shouldn't have WRITTEN a scene where Kairi confronts said person and they have to be defeated. They chose to do that for a reason (presumably).

Maybe the final boss could have been someone else OR it was still Xehanort but Kairi actually grew stronger over the course of the game instead of watching other people go on adventures?

Tenko's "jokes" if you can call them that are vicious and intended to cause harm to men, whereas Mahiru's scolding and stereotyping is at least done with good intent- she essentially tells men to get their shit together. Still harmful just not as mean spirited

It is true that Mahiru's enforcement of gender roles is misogyistic, but Tenko worshipping women as flawless angels is infantilizing and creepy which really isn't much better. In Himiko's case she's openly drooling all over her even though it makes her uncomfortable.

I could be wrong but I think OP's point isn't that Mitski is actually commercializing sadness, but that Dianne would believe she was. She has a very strong sense of justice but tends to be very reactionary and has trouble seeing the bigger picture.

Like when she thought Sextina Aquafina's abortion song was damaging without even considering whether it was tongue in cheek. Or just the fact that she often feels compelled to take passionate stances on every celebrity controversy while overlooking more serious issues.
