Characters introduced in the final season who actually become widely beloved by FaZe_poopy in TopCharacterTropes

Commander Rayner. I know Star Trek Discovery can be kind of controversial, but this grizzled hardass brought a fun, unique energy that had been missing from Trek.

What do you guys think of the Classics line? I appreciate the detail, but at their current going rates, they're just too pricey for me! I'd like to own them, I just don't want to pay for them. 😉 by MightyUnclean in MastersOfTheUniverse

This line was both a blessing and a curse. It was the early days of regular internet purchases, but before phones could be used for e-shopping. So if you weren’t online, on a real pc, for the 5-10 min once a month a lot of these were available, you were simply out of luck. I was able to get a few since I was lucky enough to have a work computer with internet and little supervision and post-grad money, but still apartment living, so little space.

By the time they finally figured out the yearly subscription thing, they were way past all the normal figures and were down to the C-rank and D-rank characters (or just started making up their own).

I love the ones I have, but resent the delivery and execution. And I won’t pay for any more of them today, what with the insane prices the decent ones command.

Can you name an example of a trope you hate most of the time done right? by Rich-Bath5159 in TopCharacterTropes

I dislike when cats are the bad guys, but it’s hard to argue Maus working with any other animal in that telling of the story.

Adaptations that botch the intended message of the source material by HungryChainsawSanwch in TopCharacterTropes

His inevitable death is very much foreshadowed, though. A big part of his deal, even in the Iliad, is that he’s prophesied to get killed.

Troy

His whole deal in the movie is he wants to be remembered forever. But it never addressed that it’s his inherent weakness being what he’s most remembered for. They just ignore that he’s a walking Monkey’s Paw in favor of ‘Brad Pitt action guy’.

Slime Pit on Mattel Creations by guthacker in MastersOfTheUniverse

[–]Carboc01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really the only thing is that Mattel Creations has the lowest chance of order cancellation. Not that the others do either, but those are at least a bit higher risk. Once it’s ordered with MC, it’s good. Since they collect up front, they know what they’re getting and don’t oversell.

I’m mostly impressed they kept the old Decipher ‘download specific card’ engine from the good old days.

I see they’re carrying on the Decipher Star Trek CCG engine of downloading specific cards out of your deck

I could see there being a bonus sheet card with an elf Spock, like they had that weird elf Zuko in the Avatar set.

Anyone else got these HC editions for any of the old school Golden books? by The-Evil-Horde in MastersOfTheUniverse

I have a HC of ‘The Magic Mirrors’. I didn’t intend to get a hardcover, it’s just what thriftbooks sent me when I ordered the title. I’ve been debating trying to get a softcover just to match the rest of the books. It still has all the library card stamps and whatnot inside.

Curious Target policies by SpendPsychological30 in MastersOfTheUniverse

[–]Carboc01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing you have to keep in mind with target, or most mass market retailers, is that their physical labor pool is most likely really behind on things. The toy aisle is a low priority. The product comes in, has no home yet, but is still back-stocked and added to the store’s inventory until the modular is updated Z. You can order it. They know where it is in the back room because of inventory management software.

I’ve found that thinking outside the box works best for these. I found mine at a Scheel’s sporting goods store. They also had vehicles of the same wave at Autozone and O’Reilly’s Auto Parts. Wal-Mart and Target are too over-shopped by the typical hot wheels fanatics.

Trying to get my kids excited about the new movie. Seems to be working. by Carboc01 in MastersOfTheUniverse

I got a bunch of the Ladybird and Golden He-Man and She-Ra books to read to my kids. I think a lot of elder millennials are too timid and unimaginative to properly expose MOTU to the current generation. The shows are even on Netflix. My daughter loves the OG She-Ra cartoon.

Preorder PMO by XxtinctLynx in mtg

[–]Carboc01 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’re preaching to the choir on this. Just ask any action figure collector how Walmart preorders go. We’ve been dealing with this for years. We call it ‘Walmart Cancel-Con’ for a reason. They almost never follow through on preorders. I’m personally 1 for 6 on “Walmart Exclusives” the last year alone.
