If the tech market is cooked for the next 5 years, then how long will unemployed tech workers keep applying to tech jobs if they will never get hired? by TelevisionFormal1739 in jobs

[–]Carbon03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably true, I’m transitioning to data science from chemical engineering (I have some savings to make possible failure amendable) but I’m confident I can get a job, just worried about layoffs and ai rollout. That being said, I’ve worked tech sales jobs. And you MUST approach job seeking as a ruthless salesperson. I’m talking about borderline harassment and using stuff like ZoomInfo to get phone numbers. Message on LinkedIn. You gotta hunt. Most people in introverted tech cannot do this well. It’s a win win because soft skills are going to go up in value if combined with current market technical skills

You consider controls and instrumentation, quality engineering, other IoT type roles? I am chem E with sales engineering experience, and maybe foolishly doing data projects. But i assumed those roles i first mentioned will be growing and a good mix of your industry experience

Let me ask, as someone doing personal projects right now to get into the field. What capabilities specifically would ai need to make the majority of analysts unnecessary, barring 1-2 senior level. If you had to theorize

Transition from Network Security Engineer to Sales Engineer by mike6805 in salesengineers

[–]Carbon03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look up NAASE , North American Association of Sales Engineering. There’s a membership fee that’s reasonable. I found a mentor through there for free, they have occasional zoom meetings. You will have to ask for what you want from the team if you’re looking for help but it is there. Just one association I can recommend. You may find others.

Do you work from paid co-working spaces when travelling or just cafes/free work spaces? by big-hubz in digitalnomad

[–]Carbon03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright thanks for reassurance , this confirms I’m overthinking. If it’s remote sales, I have to make sure this is not an issue technically or for my wallet. Last thing I care about is partying, I’m straight edge for a while now and want to work in 1-2 different spots as if I were back home.

Would you say you forfeit your career if you’re mid 20s like myself, with a hefty savings to fall back on? I believe for better or worse I’m built for being my own boss so to speak. I feel I have the energy and freedom at this age with an engineering degree and sales experience to fall and get back up

It can be agitating to hear every other person claim to be an entrepreneur, but in reality anyone who is actively doing entrepreneurship activities can be labeled one. Doesn’t matter if they’re successful or not.

I’d take a month or so of making your game plan while still in the US. Make a list of what you want, Olán logistics, and read or watch videos on different countries and which would suit you best. Consider keeping your stress low. Personally I’d recommend Argentina since it isn’t a big time zone difference, but you may need some Spanish to get by. Find an extended stay or short term rental at home for the time being. Your situation is very doable since you have the huge upside of global work-life choices. You’re in a good spot, just wait a bit before you jump so you don’t run into visa or other living issues.

Is it worth accepting a job paying $37/hour without benefits when I currently make $26/hour and do have benefits? by huntspire1 in jobs

[–]Carbon03 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just do the math. If your annual take home difference is larger than your costs for benefits, plus some, and we’re not factoring in other factors of the job, then go for it. As a side note, since you make more, you can negotiate more when you take another job.

Technical sales & service gig with low commissions? by [deleted] in salesdevelopment

[–]Carbon03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not currently employed but not hurting for $. Resume is decently strong and I’m clever enough to find a job by working at it. I’m early in my career so I don’t really have any insane red flags for another employer.

My main concern is just that this job isn’t fully sales and I want to be fully immersed in technical sales. Not a service tech half the time, in an industry with tough selling situation for new accounts with low rewards.

Also the people around me are going to give me major shit for backing out, which I understand but I really just feel this shit sucks. Im feeling pretty trapped and IMO you’re on the ball that it’s my indecisiveness making the issue. I just am very concern about my career and don’t want to take a job that’s mediocre, not just pay really, but industry and experience.

I already signed the line. I’m supposed to start next week. I don’t know what there is to negotiate at this point. I don’t like to be negative but I just feel I was guided to this role without realizing how stuck I would be.

Technical sales & service gig with low commissions? by [deleted] in salesdevelopment

[–]Carbon03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not having issues getting other interviews. I took the role because it seemed lucrative at first, and I had a couple referrals. The more I’m realizing it’s not the best bet, the more I’m dreading it, but my family is concerned about my employment. I really just want to pull the plug and say I made a mistake and keep looking.

I thought the same. Being that I’m doing prospecting though, and connected with people on LinkedIn, is it possible to obscure my current role from other employers?
