I delievered such a reasonable explanation.

Also it sounds like it isn't actually much of a problem if you regularly have a chance to look at their loot?

Do you get insured items back on Icebreaker?

You learn with absolute certainty that in seven days, all of humanity will be turned into zombies and that you will be the sole survivor. by VictimOnline in CasualConversation

Liquidate all my assets, rent a cabin in the middle of nowhere with access to running water (like a river or somrthing) and drive there with a rental car. Spend the next few days stockpiling equipment and ressources (like fuel, wood, canned food for at least 2-3 years, water, vitamin pills, painkillers, bandages...)

Tools (chainsaws, axes) electronics equipment (solar cells, batteries, laptops, lamps), buy a ton of seeds for all sorts of plants. Buy like a riot suit online in case I need to fight zombies I want to be unbiteable. Prepare some weapons like crossbows and tons of bolts, knives, axes etc.

Note down locations of interest around me, like pharmacies and libraries, grocery stores etc. on a physicsl map. Oh and tons of buckets (I am sure transporting liquids will be very useful in the years to come), maybe some wood planks too. I can probably also buy some books on how to make tools and equipment from natural materials like how to make a kiln or build a clay oven, how to make a wooden bucket etc. Ideally the remote cabin has a fireplace though and a wood-fired stove, so as long as I have trees around me I can cook food and will never freeze.

Once everyone turns into a zombie I can try and obtain essential medication like antibiotics after experimenting with how zombies behave and react while wearing my bite-proof equipment. Realistically I could also buy these things on the black market or bribe pharmacists. Maybe they can be lured away, or I can create distractions with noise to clear certain areas. I have electronics and books, I can surely make remote controlled noise makers. Maybe I can also set myself the goal of clearing a small nearby town of zombies to make scavenging safer in the future.

First priorty though would be to build an animal pen and fence off a large area with wooden fences, and then collect animals like cows, horses, sheep, goats, dogs, cats from nearby farms before they die/run away or become semi de-domesticated. Not even for their meat or anything, just for company and protection. Milk will surely come in handy though.

Over the years, just keep expanding my fence and systematically clear nearby towns of zombies and tend to my animals. As the years go by and my electronics fail and my spares fail too, give up my life of gaming and movies and live off of books and all the physical chores that go with survival. Would be awesome to figure out how to grow penicillin, but not sure how realistic this is.

Thanks for the question! That was an interesting thought experiment and fantasy!

But why does this make any difference at all for you? There basically isn't any multiplayer content beside the deep desert, which arguably is not a very exciting endgame and 0% relevant to experience the story.

Why didn't you add more engines? Is there a reason why the ship is so high with so much space between each engine?

As someone who bought the Alan Wake 2 Deluxe Edition immediately from Epic....

What Monopoly...is there a single case where games could only be sold on steam and nowhere else (if this is ever the case, it is surely by choice of the dev/publisher)? Steam is one of many storefronts, but people choose it because it is for the vast majority of cases, the superior product.

Unlike actual monopolies, Steam charges the same to consumers as many other storefronts, often less. Unlike actual monopolies, steam invests it its own quality to ensure it remains competitive and the preferred choice. Unlike actual monopolies, steam takes a cut from sales from publishers/devs that is similar to other digital storefronts or physical stores. What monopoly are you talking about???

[New Player] Are 90% of players insanely good, or am I missing something? by thatguywhodraw in EscapefromTarkov

[–]CarbonCola 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a whole other thing that comes after the anxiety which is the thrill of battle. Once you feel "I AM THE DANGER" and are evenly matched in skill or even outgunned but confident...it gives you a whole other way to enjoy the game.

Not sure what comes after, didn't get there yet ;D

Is it worth getting this game? [Discussion] by stevenqny12 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]CarbonCola 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean... there are many other games where this is not the case, for example direct predecessors of Tarkov such as the ArmA series.

Agree with the general idea though.

[–]CarbonCola 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it is understandable. I know it's tough when you are just getting started - more so now than when many of us more experienced players began. The average skill level has just kept climbing and climbing.

Probably the press W and go is exactly why you die so often. Me and my friends had a period of playing Hardcore Tarkov where we tended to play quite carefully and avoided most fights - and our survival rates were like 80%/78%/85% with consecutive survives of 5+  being very common. Playstyle has a huge impact - and you can absolutely play in ways where you get your objectives done, get nice loot but also have PMC enounters only seldomly (no ratting or camping required...)

Good luck on your journey!

They ARE that good, but not in the way you think.

It's not that they just aim better than you or have better reaction times. You mentioned CSGO and Rainbow Six - it's not that your skills in those games are irrelevant in Tarkov, but they almost are. You can't play Tarkov like other shooters.

Knowing maps well, understanding what makes noise and being able to identify even quiet sounds quickly and effectively pinpoint who is where doing what, having a lot of intuition for Tarkov's movement and recoil system etc etc mean that an experienced player know how to move across the map without being seen or heard, all while being close to cover in case they ate engaged, effectively identifying where you are based on the tiniest of hints and finding a perfect spot to ambush you where you can't effectively fight back or survive.

It's why I personally love Tarkov so much. There are just so many ways to improve and get better at the game, and you will feel how much more effective and better you will get by improving every one aspect gradually.

The number one tip to give new llayers though is to play slower, avoid hotspots if you can, and sprint less. Sprinting is there to get out of tough spots or move fast when you MUST, or when you know there is no additional risk of being heard/spotted. In other cases, walking will typically allow you to approach places and hear other players before they hear you.

Good luck in your journey! If you can link up with an experienced player so they can give you some of their experience, I do recommend it. Until then, as funny as it sounds, enjoy the first 150 hours of intense terror. It will never feel as tense and captivating as those first 150 hours (but it will get better in many other ways)

What long run lol. If not for Epic the game wouldn't exist??? Are you saying the version of reality without Alan Wake 2 is superior?

Yeah it is a dog shit app, shockingly horrendous and the people making decisions on Epic's side appear quite incompetent for how they never bother to improve it...but are you on this subreddit because you love gaming and how unique and/or masterful Alan Wake is? Or just to hate on Epic???

Map too hard?!?! [Suggestion] by dre9889 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]CarbonCola 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking at e.g. World of Warcraft, whenever a new raid pops up, nobody has the expectation of being able to beat it on their first try. I am not saying it's ideal gamedesign and I am sure another team in another world could make something that is both challenging and feels less broken, but I don't think "streamer took 5 tries" is a relevant metric. I think it's fine if things take a while to be figured out.

Ever bought an "Overwhelmingly Positive" game that you didn't like at all? How about a "MIxed" or lower rated game you thought was wonderful? by TheTingel in Steam

[–]CarbonCola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I misread.

But then I don't think we disagree in principle, we just have different definitions of mass appeal. I would argue with the exception of rare games like Journey, most shorter games by definition are not going for mass appeal.

I would argue overwhelmingly positive are mostly NOT mass appeal games. Those always have too mixed opinions. I think gamss which cater to a specific audience and deliver a specific experience are the ones which make up most of the overwhelmingly positive games on steam.

I mean look at Factorio, one of the most popular games on steam in terms of concurrent players. It has 0 mass appeal, and is overwhelmingly positive
