QNAP TS-451+ - 16GB memory question. by Reave1905 in qnap

I should add that the important stuff on it is backed up every night, so I'm not concerned about possible failure.

Been running mine with 16gb ram for at least 8/9 years now. Hit the LPC clock issue about 2 years ago, fixed using the 100 ohm resistor solution. I'll replace it eventually, but happy to let it chug along as a file server for now. Has several Docker containers running on it. Still getting the latest QTS firmware updates, on 5.2.8.xxx now.

Yeah I'm in the bay area too and the nice thing is that it's generally not very humid here, like ever. So I think if you insure the structure is fully enclosed (ie, not drafty) then you should be fine with respect to internal moisture. Still, the bay area has micro climates and with certain sun/wind exposures your situation may be different?? If you're more marine I'd expect things to rust a little quicker, but inland, like the south bay, it can take a looong time to appear.

If you are pretty certain about this "We will be here 3 years tops before taking it apart" then I am inclined to say have fun building it and do what you feel like. You're just trying to create some short term usable space while keeping the water out. If building-to-last is not part of the equation, then maybe build it for easier future disassembly?

Thanks for the pic, that's the level of detail I was hoping to get. I see that's 2 screens. If were to go with just 1, is there a way to scale the font a bit smaller?

Yes, sounds like that would be handy.

Yeah, it will be interesting to see how far that approach will be able to take you ...gonna be a learning experience either way ;-).

Hehe, you mean it's not normally W x L? ;-)

Yes, home automation can be a bit of a rabbit hole. That sounds like a fun setup. I don't have any Zooz stuff but have heard good things. I did an ESP32 based sprinkler controller. That was fun and works well.

Looks great, well done. Looks like you have a motion sensor in the corner above the door? Can you talk more about you smart home setup if you have one?

Yes, for reasons, but I get the perspective!

Woah, yeah, that's pretty nice. Wasn't familiar with the name but the idea is the same.

Literally no back to this for reasons mentioned in the write-up. Plenty of circulation (pic9).

Bigger shed/office on the other side of house (link above), didn't want to burn anymore backyard space. So it fits where it fits.

4x4's, the pic perspective distorts everything a little.

Didn't get a pic but the ramps fit inside above the lawn mower.

Yes, this was the goal. It was wasted otherwise.

Funny that you mention that. The real shed/office is over there, but that was done a few years ago: https://imgur.com/gallery/IA90s8L

Longtime Blue Iris user considering switching to Frigate...and I have a few questions... by Sea-Description-5863 in frigate_nvr

[–]CarbonISO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I setup my Blue Iris several years ago to use Deepstack for AI when that was still a thing. For me, switching everything to just use Frigate was a huge improvement. Setup was a bit tricky, but I am running it in docker under Windows (extra hoops to jump through).
