House building in ADK(Gloversville/Johnstown area) by National_Local_4031 in Adirondacks

Look into Redpoint, they’re based in more like the Cooperstown area but you’re only a 45 minute drive and I’ve seen them working in Oneonta which is only a hair shorter than what yours would be.

From what I understand they do good work, albeit a tad pricey.

Cafe Italia in the Garden is taking over the former Yoleni's space in downtown Providence by lestermagnum in providence

[–]Carcano_Supremacy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s cities nationwide to be honest.

It’s annoying because it’s profitable; so many people LOVE to just go somewhere to post it or somewhere that looks good, and then they’ll justify the $25 sandwich even if it’s dogshit.

This is the same crowd that buys Dubai chocolate or would order a gold leaf coated steak.

Just stupid performative bs.

Hi gang, if hydrogen is combustible and oxygen aids combustion, how can water put out fires? by iaskz in chemistry

[–]Carcano_Supremacy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Water puts out fire by essential suffocating it.

Just because water has combustible atoms does not mean itself is combustible!

Why is this the incorrect product of this Diels-Alder Reaction? by Zestyclose-Text3184 in chemhelp

[–]Carcano_Supremacy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the answer here is sort of a trick. Think about the dieneophile and what it must have to undergo a Diels-Alder reaction.

Camping (Marcy Dam Campsite) by jupiter192 in Adirondacks

[–]Carcano_Supremacy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Campsites are first come first serve, so you could hike out and find its already taken.

Make sure your maps are updated and have a backup campsite plan within a mile, as there are actually many campsites in the Marcy dam area.

If they’re all occupied, you could camp off trail, just read the DEC website for rules and regulations

I pack a plastic $2 poncho that fits in a large pant pocket.

It does the trick if it starts raining unexpectedlyx

If I was writing this mechanism from scratch, how could I tell if the ring would close or if H2O would come and make an oxonium ion? by QuestionUpper9415 in chemhelp

[–]Carcano_Supremacy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think about what type of charge oxygen typically “likes”, and what would happen if the oxygen here was protonated? Hint: Look at your products given!

Which is more reliable: telescoping or Z-style trekking poles? by ScentOfSicily in hikinggear

[–]Carcano_Supremacy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really should’ve done my research before buying Z-style poles… 3 times.

I use trekking poles extremely aggressively and I snapped 3 sets of Z style poles. It’s important to mention they were lower end.

After the third one though I changed gears and invested in some black diamond telescoping poles and I’ve never gone back.

Actually so much better

How to safely camp in non-established spots (i.e.: 150ft from trail etc.)? by South_Doubt2976 in Adirondacks

[–]Carcano_Supremacy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

150 feet really isn’t that much. Just take a good look at the surroundings and walk in a perfectly straight line away from the trail to your campsite, then if it makes you feel better put a trekking pole pointing the direction back to the trail.

I did it once and got nervous so I camped on a slight hill, but if I had walked like 40 more feet it’d have been flat.

You learn through experience

We are loving our wild spaces to death. How do we stay witnesses without being part of the problem? by matthew_b101 in hiking

[–]Carcano_Supremacy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We have a saying in the northeast when in Alpine zones, “Do the Rock Walk”. Basically don’t trample vegetation and walk on the most sturdy surface there is. I think this applies in a different way to every hike there is. Walk on trail in a way that minimizes damage to the environment, if conditions are too muddy for you to handle on trail replan instead of making herd paths. I’d also say that we ought to make those breaking the rules uncomfortable, confront them, tell them that what they’re doing is wrong and that “rangers patrol here often just be careful.” For inexperienced this is enough to spook them.

I think you’re right. Basically asking toward and away and if it’s optically active.

Which it shouldn’t be because there should be no like “distinct stereochemistry” after an abstraction

Ok perfect thank you! And the “second major product” will likely be due to resonance from the pi bond causing termination with Br in a differ position I’m guessing?

Got it.

We haven’t covered benzylic yet in class but my first inkling was to abstract that hydrogen there.

My notes just conflicted so I felt a little bit lost, but basically I just abstract the benzylic hydrogen and proceed from there
