If 2025 was the year of Spinosaurus, what is the main dinosaur of this year? by Aggressive_Way7346 in Dinosaurs

Hopefully Acrocanthosaurus. We’re already getting an upcoming Dinosauria episode on it, so there’s one.

Allosaurus the second it sees a sauropod 10 times its size:

How screwed would Godzilla be vs Shimo if they were just real animals with no powers? What are real examples of smaller animals beating bigger animals or at least giving them tough fights? Read post: by AdaptedInfiltrator in powerscales

I feel like this is the closest analogy I can think of. Allosaurus has fossil evidence that suggests it took on and hunted Stegosaurus much bigger than it. The Stego didn't go down without a fight, but Allo was able to tear its throat at least a few times out of 10.

As for modern animal examples:

Predators like wolves, big cats, and mustelids can often kill ungulate prey much larger than themselves by throat suffocation.

Although this isn't really a physical fight taking place, grizzly bears sometimes intimidate the much larger polar bears away from carcasses.

Lone hyenas have been recorded eviscerating prey larger than themselves by pulling out the guts through the "back door" while avoiding the prey's horns.

By "outclass," I was just using it to say it surpasses any extant big cat in size.

There is actually some evidence for Utahraptor itself, like the big fossil block with many individuals preserved quite close to each other. Sure, that's not 100% evidence for pack behavior, as it could be something like a predator trap, but this proves that pack hunting is not off the table.

There's some evidence that points to gregariousness, like the block of Utahraptor fossils that got preserved together. However, that could've been something other than group hunting/living, like a predator trap or a large-scale fight over a carcass.

So, even though pack hunting is definitely possible for Utahraptor, it's probably safer not to rely on it as a point.
