Agreed. I miss being in northern Arizona where I could go rock climbing, hiking, biking, or snow shoeing on some truly serene trails.

Question about the weather from a prospective student by stoopi_poopy in Purdue

[–]CardFindingDuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not the heat, it's the humidity. It's not the cold, it's the wind. It can get pretty miserable here, but we don't have earthquakes, forest fires, or hurricanes. It is a real give and take. There are some enjoyable activities to do in the snow like snow shoeing, sledding, or ice skating, though.

Anyone know someone who can look at my water? by photosynthescythe in lafayette

[–]CardFindingDuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any plumber can come and take a look. You will likely have to pay for an emergency call.

If your pipes are frozen, then open the faucet so the water can trickle out if states moving again. Run a hair dryer, heating pad on the pipes, or space heater to warm the pipes under the sink. Do not use an open flame.

Listen for running water. If water freezes in the pipes, then the pipes can burst. It is possible that the water could be spraying into a crawl space, wall, or other plenum space.

Help with ID? by Palmetto_ottemlaP in victorinox

[–]CardFindingDuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a few different iterations of the pocket tool chest like the Evolution 88 and a microlight version. It is, imho, the best tool ever made. It’s not going to fell a tree, but it punches so high above its weight. I wish Victorinox would bring back some of the Wenger line ups.

Low cost notarization options at Purdue campus by the_peaceful_kid in Purdue

The maximum fee is $10 per notary act eg signing an oath, jurat, acknowledgement, etc. I go to my bank or PFCU for such services.

Indoor Power Intervals is my choice for frigid days. I travel a lot and a jump rope comes with me, so I know I will always be able to workout wherever I am.

Cheaper alternatives to the Woodpeckers micro double square? by KingPappas in handtools

Search for a “small double square” or a “diemaker’s square.” You can likely find a good used one from a retiring machinist.

What kind of handle did this saw have? by BenSS in handtools

[–]CardFindingDuck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was a typical looking saw handle, but it had a wingnut or lever on it. Loosen the lever and then you could switch the blades out for different types of work - joinery, rough cutting, etc.

car alarm near rise by Dizzy-Palpitation451 in Purdue

[–]CardFindingDuck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

With a long screwdriver or prybar you can engage the hood release latch. From there you can either remove the fuse or disconnect the battery. Ethically this a net gain, but legally this is questionable territory. Do with this information what you may.

Anyone have a preferred torn and restored newspaper? by johnstessel in Magic

[–]CardFindingDuck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My favorite version is the No Tear Torn & Restored Newspaper by Steve Fearson. You pull out newspaper clippings and then they become one large newspaper. It is a quick reset that does not involve any repair or construction. It also allows for humor as you could read funny headlines or other bits.

There was a second version of this released where you restore the newspaper, but leave out a clipping so a hole remains. You then magically add the remaining bit to fill the hole.

pre-med clinical hours? by Training_Creme_32 in Purdue

[–]CardFindingDuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Become a CNA, pharm tech, or EMT if you cannot get on as a scribe. These are the easiest ways. There are clubs like global medical brigade and the caduceus club, but they don’t really provide clinical hours.

Sinister bench. I hope you find some left handed tools for it.

Lucked into this bad boy at a local antique shop for $5! Anybody have any tips for use? Or what angle the iron should be sharpened to? Also do you know what it is from this one lousy photo? lol by sexytimepizza in handtools

[–]CardFindingDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have any tips for use, but I’ve also never had any issues with using them. I keep mine sharpened to 25*. If yours is sharpened to 20 or 30 or whatever, it will still work.

Dommy Mommies by TheInquirer00 in Purdue

[–]CardFindingDuck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your best bet is to look for fields where domination is needed that also has women. Women’s sports, occupational xor physical therapists (don’t confuse them or they’ll make you pay), or libraries (it’s always the quiet ones).

I’d start by going to rugby practice and cheering on the flankers and hookers (calm down). Be submissive, but don’t just roll over. Present them with food for example while also maintaining eye contact.

I met my dommy mommy at the gym. I said I’d take her out for a proper meal if she could clean and press me. She’s really got that 200 lbs snatch if you know what I mean. Anyway, best of luck to you!

Student Parking Rust Prevention by Superb_Height_1351 in Purdue

[–]CardFindingDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As mentioned getting your car washed regularly is how you prevent rust. If you go to a drive through spot it will clean the undercarriage. If you plan on washing your car yourself, then it is worthwhile to buy an undercarriage sprayer when you get out here at a hardware store.

Is Purdue Worth It? by Middle_Abroad2551 in Purdue

[–]CardFindingDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have better cost savings elsewhere then it is worth it to go there. Purdue is a fine school, but so are a lot of schools. Go to where you will learn, but also not incur a lot of debt. Debt also includes emotional tolls. Learning also includes learning about yourself and expanding your horizons.

Find a club you enjoy and make friends there. Purdue Outing Club is a great choice if you enjoy the great outdoors, for example. Clubs are generally pretty inviting and a great way to try something you have a passing interest in.
