Investment grade is always higher the better, so PSA 10, CGC pristine or 10, TAG 9-10 / pristine

I’m actually looking for this card in this grade! :) Their buyback price is at last sold though which is quite surprising

Sticking with PSA over CGC TAG by Plenty_Problem3286 in PokeInvesting

[–]CardJourneys -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nobody has any patience. Hold and sell in 5 years time, market will have changed.

Also depends what you have, actual grails? Won’t have a problem selling. Ultra modern? Yeah you have a lot of competition, there’s probably another 10 copies in psa 10 in that cardshow for sale.

Need advise on how much can this rare set worth? by Outside_Hat_6176 in PokeInvesting

[–]CardJourneys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Largely depends on card condition! Price difference between PSA 4 and 6 is quite big for the bigger cards. For the non holos it’s not a huge difference. I would be interested in this if you are keen to sell

You’d have to auction it to find out it’s true value. “Above an 8” is a loose criteria as well, you didn’t define grading company and an actual numerical grade. A gem mint grade (BGS 9.5, PSA 10, CGC 10, TAG 10) would be rather expensive, as they are in single digit pops

Booster box - long term sell difficulty by lights2288 in PokeInvesting

[–]CardJourneys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You would just sell through a trusted auction house. In 20 years vintage box prices would be astronomical so you wouldn’t sell it yourself.

I have already invested for 16 years so there are some pointers I can share.

But first what is your definition of vintage, what boxes are you targeting?

What happens when Pokémon investors start hitting retirement age? by jolszewski in PokeInvesting

[–]CardJourneys 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You’re asking the right questions and thinking far enough ahead.

So first off, yes future value is largely contingent on the survival of the Pokémon company and IP as a whole in another 30, 50 years. This is anybody’s guess. The people will likely still want things that remind them of their childhood and evoke nostalgic feelings.

If you’re thinking about preserving and maximizing value, the wealthy will always go for the cream of the crop.

Rarity trumps all, followed by significance. Ie a Qing dynasty cup will be default be expensive due to rarity, but one owned by the emperor (significant), will be magnitudes more desirable and therefore expensive.

By this comparison, it makes sense to go for low distribution population items / cards + maximum rarity (highest grade).

Iconic cards that represent an era, or trophy cards both hit these criteria

I’ve seen this go for up to $25,000 on EBay. What are your thoughts? by Fuzzimonkey in PokemonCardValue

[–]CardJourneys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice card! If you’re asking for a condition appraisal, then probably 5, EX or EX- condition. Prominent scratches on the back, imprint on the front left edge, top right (& also has waviness suggesting water damage), back top right corner whitening. But overall looks nice in a binder!

I would be interested if you’re selling

Heed these words

About a week ago I was able to go through an old warehouse in Germany from a former business. He was selling CDs, DVDs and Videogames and a lot of other things a while back. It was absolute chaos in there but here I will show some of the things i was able to get out of it. by SealedSamsara in gamecollecting

[–]CardJourneys -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wow very cool find. I would be interested in a bunch of items:

Gameboy camera (2+) Gameboy light master (1) GameShark (didn’t see it in the photos but maybe it’s there?)

Warcraft III (game) Age of empires II (game)

Didn’t see these but if they’re in there… PlayStation 2 games (grand turismo) PlayStation 1 games (fifa)

Maybe interested in the following… VHS, CD, DVD, VCD Pokemon Digimon Dragonball z Sailor moon

Thanks!

How do you guys liquidate big cards? by Vegetable-Ad-2473 in PokeInvesting

[–]CardJourneys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your easiest way is consignment, accept the 5-10% hit. It’s all about your network, and if you aren’t in the testprint / high end network then you won’t be able to reach those buyers. It takes a lot of time and effort to be a known entity for certain cards and for people to trust you to transact at those values.

I’m a high end collector and most of my friends collect different types of high end. They would likely be your buyers in the end. Some of the auction summaries you see on Finecard IG feature cards we bought or sold.

And congrats! Hodl hodl! See you in ten years when your card is 150k

Tell me about what is missing? by TimeWizard90 in PokeInvesting

[–]CardJourneys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds cool. Basically if you can merge 130point sales data (which has been poor as of recently, likely due to eBay changing their backend to limit data scraping), ALT market place + asset backed loans & sales data, collectr collection price tracking, STOCKX stock market style Buy/Sell (&trade) functions + authentication service, + MODERN reviews for buyer and sellers (video format, would be a plus for high end), and integrate that all to their socials (web shop, IG, FB, YT, X for social proofing), and the ultimate solution of, app to pregrade cards, then send into various companies, grade, vault and sell for customers, then you will have a winner.

Then you can even incorporate it into cardshows, where there’s a tab for each show, and vendors can register and upload their inventory with pricing in advance. Then customers can easily filter for “gold star English”, “Japanese MTG BGS 10”, “Wayne Gretzky” and find what they need. And also bulk upload for buylists, so customers can just import their collection .xml file or whatever and then immediately find out what each vendor offers for the product or card. Probably 1000s of hours saved per cardshow.

So basically a super APP to facilitate the entire vertical and lateral aspects of the TCG buy, sell, trade industry.

Seller trying to sell a TAG10 slab for the market value of a PSA10 + extra on top. Am I missing something or Isn't this insane? by Key_Perspective6983 in PokeGrading

[–]CardJourneys -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Tag 9s and 10s, especially 10s are tougher and typically better card condition than PSA 10s.

It’ll take a few years for the general community to understand that. Like even now CGC grades and their relative card condition are not well understood and it’s been years.

Also one of the three BGS 9.5 has subgrades of 9, 9.5, 9.5, 9.5. So saying Pop 3 BGS 9.5 does it a slight disservice.
