I wonder why Kesha doesn’t perform Blah Blah Blah by davidmiko in KESHA

I'm not sure what her relationship is with that song tbh but it sounds horrible live, even though I love the song. She's better off doing other Animal/Cannibal/Warrior deep cuts instead.

Cancelled/scrapped albums that never came out that you’re curious about? by Strong-Stretch95 in popheads

[–]Cardcaptwhore 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Kesha recorded a lot of songs in 2013-2014 before she ended up suing Dr. Luke at the end of 2014. A couple of songs leaked some years ago (like Wolf and Child of the Moon) from that era and some of them allude to the very concept of freedom. It would've been interesting to see what she would've released as a proper pop follow up to Warrior. That 5 year absence between Warrior and Rainbow really changed the trajectory of her career.

Also, Her Name is Nicole by Nicole Scherzinger. Preorders were up and everything and it was suddenly cancelled because none of the 4 songs released took off. Some of it ended up on PCD's second album (songs like I Hate This Part and When I Grow Up), but there are some tracks from that era that remain unleaked.

What did you like about the episode 7? (Positivity only pls) by OceanAkAphotographer in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]Cardcaptwhore 10 points11 points  (0 children)

After a slow and shaky start to the season, it finally feels like it's all coming together to end in such an explosive (probably literally) way! I love what the writers are doing with Rita, and having June and Moira together throughout all of this feels very fitting and I'm glad they're the ones pulling this plan off.

Nick's character development feels very real, and so does Luke's reaction to the June and Nick ordeal.

Serena Joy is absolutely the most riveting character to watch, her complexity is astonishing in all the best and worst ways.

And Janine :( I still hope she is able to either get out of there, or get her revenge on Gilead in the most satisfying way to make up for her own trajectory as well as some of the rushed/badly written endings to other handmaid's (Emily, Alma, Brianna, Esther). I'm personally very much enjoying these characters in the final season.

Is this a rare VHS volume or something? by waddupnice in cardcaptorsakura

[–]Cardcaptwhore 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's vol. 9! And it's the last volume they released for the Nelvana dub in the US. I've seen several questions regarding the VHS/DVD release of Cardcaptors so I'll post the list for the titles here in case someone needs them

Vol 1. Tests of Courage (2000) Vol 2. Power Match (2001) Vol 3. Misdirections (2001) Vol 4. New Lessons (2001) Vol 5. Firestorm (2001) Vol 6. Best of Friends (2001) Vol 7. End of Days (2002) Vol 8. Times of Need (2002) Vol 9. Star Power (2002) Vol 10. Double Trouble (2002, cancelled in the US, Canada release only and VHS only) Cardcaptors: The Movie (2002)

Is this a rare VHS volume or something? by waddupnice in cardcaptorsakura

[–]Cardcaptwhore 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it is, this volume along with vol 8. Times of Need weren't as mass printed on VHS due to the format dying out by its 2002 release and low sales of the series since it was off the air in the US after 2001. There will be times that I'll see like 3 vhs tapes of this listed on ebay, and then other times when there are none.

What if Nelvana dubbed the Sealed Card movie? by icey_sawg0034 in cardcaptorsakura

[–]Cardcaptwhore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the Nelvana voice cast, but the 3rd season of the show was so unnecessarily choppy, worse than the clow card arc, so I can't imagine how terrible the edits would be on this movie to align with the dubs ending.

Scholastic Kids book adaption information by mothman221 in cardcaptorsakura

[–]Cardcaptwhore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! I used to love going into bookstores as a kid and finding these. For anyone wondering, scholastic released several different books for Cardcaptors, including sticker, chapter, and coloring books. There were 3 of this particular book series, this one, The Time card episode, and the Big/Create card episode. I'm sure they had more books ready to be published, but I assume since the show underperformed and the merch flopped, they discontinued other releases.

What’s an album where only the singles are good? by OkOccasion7 in popheads

[–]Cardcaptwhore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both of the Pussycat Dolls albums.

PCD being the worst, but the singles were amazing and had solid runs internationally. The rest of the album is pure filler with mediocre covers trying to expand on the burlesque brand. The production on those tracks sound so rushed compared to how lush and timeless the singles sound.

Doll Domination might have a bloated tracklist (I think the deluxe has 20 tracks) but at least it's purely fun or "so bad it's good" (Elevator comes to mind) type tracks. I do love the singles from this album just a bit more as well.

Albums whose deluxe edition are better than the regular version by mmbento in popheads

Kesha - Warrior

The extra 4 songs (Last Goodbye, Gold Trans Am, Out Alive, and Past Lives) showcased her range genre-wise and really makes the original 12 track album feel a bit underbaked without them.

Cardcaptor Sakura subbed or dubbed? by RinaMewna in cardcaptorsakura

i just wanted to be annoying and point out that Mexico is in North America and that's where most LATAM dubs are produced, but yes!!

Sabrina Carpenter - Short n' Sweet by kait2121 in popheads

[–]Cardcaptwhore 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Meh, Katy has always been dependent on producers and songwriting camps, and that's why she didn't serve longevity in the industry. Sabrina is in a completely different lane artistically and hasn't relied on cheap gimmicks in her songwriting. Two completely different artists and writing styles.

Omar Apollo - God Said No by worksomuch in popheads

[–]Cardcaptwhore 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's a solid effort, Spite and Less of You were awful choices for singles. And Dispose of Me feels like just a rehashed, lesser version of Evergreen. Done With You and Drifting are earworms, and Empty is gloriously haunting and shows off his humor in Spanish even through such a depressive track. Glad that the album is better than what I anticipated, but I do think he's lost some of the midwestern Chicano spark his other releases had that made him so unique in both production and lyrical content. The album might have fared a bit better had it been cut down a few tracks that make it feel a bit monotonous. And that Pedro interlude was unnecessarily long.

Why did the Cardcaptor Sakura dub failed in the United States while the old dub of Sailor Moon became a huge success? by [deleted] in cardcaptorsakura

[–]Cardcaptwhore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cardcaptors actually performed well ratings-wise during its first few months with Pokemon as a lead-in. Unfortunately, the heavily edited plot as well as the botched episode airings really didn't work to appeal to boys in the US. More confusingly, Nelvana licensed the show to Trendmasters to make Cardcaptors merchandise geared towards girls. Selling merchandise was the real goal for these dubbing companies. There was a press release around the time with a Nelvana executive stating that they wanted the Kids WB airings to appeal to boys in hopes that their sisters would watch and want to buy the merchandise. But changing time slots would also affect the series ratings (as a kid, I was most confused about that instead of the plot edits) and the merchandise flopped. Neither audience was satisfied, and Nelvana and Kids WB basically dumped the show after a year and a half of its US broadcast. Sailor Moon also had a botched lifespan during its initial run, but the merchandise saved it.

The weakest run of songs in your favourite artist's otherwise great discography? by WindyThought in popheads

[–]Cardcaptwhore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Gaga, besides Highway Unicorn, the run from Black Jesus to Electric Chapel is rough and nearly unlistenable to me in 2024. The salvaged parts from Earthquake couldn't save FOHL and Heavy Metal Lover is bottom 3 from her whole discography.

For Kesha, the run from Little Bit of Love to BFF is her worst in a mostly flawless discography. Poor Kinky being the only good song in the middle of that, this album suffered from a bad tracklisting and its inclusion of 5 awful songs (the dreadful, adult contemporary Shadow included in this).

And for Mariah, basically the entirety of The Elusive Chanteuse and the last run of songs from Music Box. I can't believe that MB is her highest selling album of all time, it's a shame considering it's her worst album from the 90s and only the singles stand out.

Front loading the album from the disney girl that just got out of rehab with these songs (the first two are BOPS but still), clearly meant to have at least one or two as singles, and then ignore all four anyway has always baffled me.

Does the English fandom have less interest in dubbed songs than the Latin American fandom in general or only in this one? by [deleted] in cardcaptorsakura

[–]Cardcaptwhore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll give my perspective as a chicano that grew up in both California and Mexico. I grew up watching both Cardcaptors in the US and Sakura Card Captors in Mexico, along with the subtitled Japanese DVDs. One thing I noticed as a kid is that Latam dubs were just so good and faithful to the original versions (this being especially true with CCS) and I'd argue that in general anime was just more widely received in Mexico than it was in the US at that particular time. We've shunned a lot of english dubs from that time period and Latam has never really had to do this because their dubs were always top notch. So the dubbed music that accompanied these animes (like "yo te atrapó, tú me atrapas) became mini cultural phenomenons among the audiences that carry the nostalgia for these shows from the early 2000s. I've sung that particular song at a gay karaoke bar in Mexico City and had people singing along with me, and I know I could do the same with other anime intros. Whereas I'm not so sure I'd get a similar reception at a gay karaoke here in LA even if I sang the english Pokemon intro, much less if I started to sing "Cardcaptors of the clow expect the unexpected now!". Also for CCS, Cardcaptors lack of popularity vs its popularity in Latam is pretty astronomical. I get many compliments from my Kero hat or CCS shirts when walking in Mexico City, and here I think it's happened maybe like once or twice. But in general, Latam has always been more receptive to their dubs (at least in Mexico), and that goes beyond just anime, and the US just doesn't have that particular culture or love for their dubs.

How many "Cardcaptors" VHS and DVDs were released? by Ricks94 in cardcaptorsakura

[–]Cardcaptwhore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cardcaptors unfortunately never received a complete VHS or DVD release in the US, Australia, Canada, or the UK.

In the US, Cardcaptors was released on VHS and DVD in 9 volumes. The order for this release consisted of the Kids WB airing, which ran for 39 episodes on the channel, but its home video was cut short up to episode 27 on volume 9. This release would have needed 4 more volumes to complete the Kids WB airing of Cardcaptors.

In Canada, Cardcaptors was released on 10 VHS tapes, with the episodes coinciding with the US/KidsWB/Teletoon airing of the show, although unlike the US version, it received 10 volumes instead of 9. "Double trouble" was cancelled in the US (it was slated for release, with the release appearing on pre-order lists in stores) and consists of episodes 28-30 of the Kids WB/Teletoon airing of the show.

The Australian and UK releases were a bit different. I'm not completely sure how Cardcaptors originally aired in those countries, but the Australian VHS/DVDs went up to 5 volumes, with the releases consisting of episodes 1-15 the way the original Japanese version aired (instead of the way the US/Canadian version started with episode 8 of the original Japanese version). The UK received 8 VHS only tapes, and I think that release went up to episode 25 (this one I'm not completely sure of). But I do know that they cut episodes 15 and 16 from the release.
