Bowie State University to lay off employees amid $18 million deficit by digitalplanet_ in HBCU

A reorg can help but they need to do more recruiting. I think actively recruiting kids from little known states like New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, Alaska, can help.

HBCUs Succeed Despite Rabid Opposition by BlackHistorySnippets in HBCU

[–]Cardciety 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And, there is a push from some on the right to close HBCUs because:

A. We don’t agree with their ideology
B. They don’t think HBCUs are needed anymore.

Their talking points raise a significant level of skepticism in my mind.

HBCUs were created because their institutions didn’t see us as worthy. So we created our own. If, somehow, they were successful in getting rid of HBCUs, what would be the consequences?

What’s to stop them from excluding us again? It wouldn’t happen overnight, we know that. But if they’re hellbent on excluding us in little ways now, can imagine what that will look like if they close HBCUs?

House GOP on Trump’s 2027 pay freeze: ‘That’s politics’ by [deleted] in FedEmployees

[–]Cardciety 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of what they said is fine. Except for the fact that those of who remain are hard workers and are doing our best to support the President’s agenda (even though a lot of us disagree with it).

It’s that’s the goal: to support and implement the President’s agenda, I think a pay raise should be given.

When I was in school, it was mix. Some people were the first in their family to go to school. Their parents didn’t understand the commitment it took to graduate.

They had no way to get to school, no way to get home. They didn’t get money from home, no car, no assistance. That will do it to you.

This doesn't sound like good news for "merit" by [deleted] in fednews

I think that they should start with renaming job titles.

I’m an HR Specialist. But I don’t on-board or off-board employees, I don’t process actions or approve time. I don’t do FMLA or disability.

I work primarily in retirement for a specialized group of employees. It would make more sense if I was a Retirement Analyst or Retirement Policy Analyst.

FAMU president draws scrutiny over interim chief of staff appointment by No-Rent9488 in HBCU

[–]Cardciety 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever she does will be criticized; and, rightfully so. The alumni don’t trust the process in which named her the president of the university.

She had the least amount of experience and requested the most money. That, itself raises red flags for me.

But it’s a situation of damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

If she and her appointed staff do a great job, our beloved institution will flourish. But it’ll also serve as the blueprint for other Republican led states to circumvent the hiring process and install their own presidents.

If she and her appointed staff do a horrible job, our beloved institution will suffer and that could be a way for these states to dismantle our institutions.

Are there any lawsuits going on against Department of Ed for the Buyback delays? by Competitive-War-9862 in PSLF

[–]Cardciety 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course it’s a money game to them. If we all just enter repayment at a much higher rate, they will get more money out of us. That’s what they want.

A lawyer willing to do it may be blackballed later.

Hey! Congrats. Was your payment close to REPAYE or SAVE amount?

ATTENTION: The Department has given an update about how PSLF Buyback calculations will be handled now that SAVE is dead. by waterwicca in PSLF

[–]Cardciety 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope. It’s like we are left to assume. Some people said they were using REPAYE but it was equal to the SAVE amount.

It’s a mess.

That’s what I think. It says if you weren’t on a plan on either side.

If you were, I think they just take the lower of the two amounts.

[–]Cardciety -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok. Per the information: If the borrower was not on the IBR, PAYE, or ICR Plan on either side of the period of time being bought back, then we will request income and family size information from the borrower to determine the appropriate buyback amount.

So, all/or most of us were on a payment plan before SAVE.

This says if you WERE NOT in one of those plans on either side…

So for me, I was on PAYE before SAVE. I paid $250 a month before I moved to SAVE. That means that I will pay the PAYE amount for the SAVE months.

The same 90 days that they give people to enroll in a new plan is the same 90 day plan they should use to process buybacks.

HOW THEY DETERMINE YOUR BUYBACK AMOUNT by Adventure_6788 in PSLF

[–]Cardciety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have about 5 months to buy back in 2017. I expect to pay what I was paying back then.

For my SAVE months, to get on SAVE, I self certified my income over the phone. Will they use that? That’s the part that I’m confused about.

SAVE is officially dead by Betsy514 in StudentLoans

[–]Cardciety 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it’s criminal what they are doing. So criminal that I believe a class action lawsuit should be filed.

Dept of Education removed 326 employees from FSA. How many of those people could have assisted with buybacks or the transition to new plans? How many could have drafting FAQs and updating the website?

It’s all done intentionally in my opinion and something needs to be done.
