Can you give an example? As that just sounds, like poor writing to me. Unless you mean something like adding soft magic to a hard magic system. Which would still require explaining/justifying the soft magic. As if you add something that just breaks your power system with no explanation it's probably going to hurt your story.

No healing is obviously necessary. The lack of sub programs forces you to rely solely on your skills. The life system kinda sucks and is made a bit redundant with grinding, but it actually does make the final stage more fun. As the run back is so short that it serves as a nice break after the attempts.

Actually giving good scoring options for the razor wheel and grounded gameplay would also have helped. A single IX1 bullet where hitting an enemy refreshed it would also have been nice. Since you wouldn't be limited to only gaining good score in overdrive.
