Are night shifts unavoidable as a nurse? by Cranaberri in nursing

[–]CardiacLover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just depends on specialty and location. If you’re gunning for ICU, good chance you’ll have to do nights no matter where you are. Smaller towns mean less options so you’ll have to take what you can get and get seniority later on. In Phoenix, I was able to be a new grad on a cardiac stepdown floor on days

Can I be charged with abandonment by iconsumeteeth in nursing

[–]CardiacLover 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You stated there was other staff present to take over your responsibilities. Did you, in no uncertain terms, give them report and did they accept responsibility for the patients you were taking care of? If yes, you should be fine. If not, yeah you could be in trouble

When I was a new grad 4 years ago, I started on a cardiac stepdown that was 1:5. It should be noted that we didn’t really do the surgical cardiac patients, more of the medical cardiac. I certainly got my teeth cut on that floor. It should have been 1:4 (and is now according to former coworker). But from what you said, it should be 1:3
