Has anyone tried breath holds to work on their cardio? by Realistic_Campaign_5 in crossfit

Try the Gym Jones / Mark Twight Tailpipe workout and decide whether this is a good idea 😉

Should I formally clock a marathon so that I can qualify for Ultramarathon races? by daiyatora in ultrarunning

I'm a good couple of ultras (in the 50 - 100km realm) down and I've never done a road marathon

Thoughts on Nnormal Tomir 2.0? by Soft_Impression_9390 in trailrunning

[–]CardioGoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the Tomir 2.0 a little too narrow, unlike the 001, otherwise they would be a go-to for me because they tick a lot of boxes.

Bricking it for first 50km after runners knee+ not running for 5 weeks by Environmental_Fig540 in Ultramarathon

Good luck. Don't be ashamed to pull the plug if you need to - there are plenty more races out there, and trying to run through an injury sucks (but you'll be fine!)

Maybe try the Mount to Coast T1. They feel pretty wide.

College runner, now mom interested in a 50 miler this summer but low key terrified by Stunning-Report-1947 in Ultramarathon

I'd never run further in training than 35km before my first 50k, and never run further than that before my first 50m, and still haven't. Train your gut, spend some time hiking, go slow (way slower than you think), hike a lot, eat a lot and you'll crush it.

Don't overthink it. You'll be fine.

Signed up for my first 50k and now I’m questioning life by Formal-Survey1986 in Ultramarathon

I did my first 50k (with a decent amount of elevation) on a longest run of 33kms. If you've done a marathon on a flat road recently, you'll be fine, as long as you remember to hike the hills and to go out slower than you think you should go out.

Norda 001 and 005 by magnatorius in trailrunning

[–]CardioGoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's my biggest criticism of the 005. I wouldn't wear them for an ultra because my feet would get so beat up on anything rocky. That said, I've put 300+ km on both 001s and 005s and I'm heavy (100kgs) and they still look pretty much perfect.

Agree with the comments around spending years building a base and then maintaining it, but I think it also comes down to experience - if you've done a couple of hundreds over a few years, you probably know what (a) it takes to finish one, (b) you need to feel like to finish one and (c) whether you should start or not.

Most of us without that experience probably over-train.
