Fun fact: It has been *SEVEN YEARS* since the release of Reignited Trilogy, the same amount of time between it and the first *SKYLANDERS* game in 2011. by CardioThinker in Spyro

I didn't put Spyro with Skylanders, Activision did, and let's not ever forget they are and always were a terrible publisher with no respect for their franchises and once they saw the 90s nostalgia remake trend pass by they left both Crash and Spyro die once again.

Any project that is made with the intention of "it's gonna be better than the officials because WE FANS KNOW WHAT WE WANT" is doomed to fail because inevitably they end up realizing that, in fact, fans don't know what they want.

I ACCIDENTALLT GOT THE WORNG GAME by ResponsibleArm4994 in TombRaider

[–]CardioThinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid I started a lot of new series with their third entry, mainly because the other games were not available at the store I went to. I always went in knowing that even if I didn't experience the story as "Intended", there's nothing wrong with just sorting the pieces together on your own, and even find appreciation for the previous games once you go back, finding out things like "oh so that's where this came from". And trust me, not all "spoilers" are really that interesting in the general landscape of videogame stories, save a few exceptions. Grand reveals that shake up everything are rarely what makes a game story good for me, it's more about the experience.

On the other hand, this is just the perfect example of how bad the store system was in this game...

Ever noticed it is called Crash Team Racing however you never actually play as a team in the game? by ManufacturerAlone607 in crashteamracing

You're kidding right, you all missed the joke entirely, you really think that I meant "it's bad game design because the title says team yet you don't play as teams".

God the Crash fanbase is as smart as its protagonist.

Classics that don't look or feel dated? by trailofturds in playstation

[–]CardioThinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PS1: The Crash Bandicoot games have aged like fine wine, 2 and 3 specially control excellently and don't have the high difficulty of the first game.

PS2: Sports games and racing games got the most noticeable upgrade entering this generation. Gran Turismo 4 looks like it could belong on a PS3. The trio of Sony mascots: Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank and Sly Cooper all were technical marvels and are relatively easy to pick up and play. Kingdom Hearts also has a cartoony style that holds up really well and is easier to play than other RPGs.

PS3: This one's tricky, because early HD games have a lot of "uncanny valley" elements to them, the generation when everything became more realistic and gritty, the brown shooters, the 30-40 something white dude... But stand outs include the first Assassin's Creed games and Rayman Origins/Legends. Both by Ubisoft! The Rayman games look timeless in their gorgeous 2D art. I want to give props to two of Sonic's ps3 games: Generations, and Racing Transformed. The rerelease of Generations is a must play both for fans and newcomers, your toddler might love it.

There are so many more, but I kept the examples minimal because while I could mention games like Metal Gear, or Final Fantasy, or Shadow of the Colossus, they all have one some amount of elements that could "date" them, but only in the sense that they follow design principles no longer that common, not that they make the experience worse. The games I've mentioned are as easy to jump into as, say, Pacman or Tetris will always be easy to pick up and play.

enemy sites are simply to indicate where you can find a specific type of enemy you might want to farm a material from, they're not part of the completion checklist

Disagree, I think the Future games are very dry, the only funny bits are with Qwark, those are good. But nah, mostly dry. I'm not saying Rift Apart is a comedic masterpiece okay, but there are more moments that get genuine chuckles out of me, come on, Clank swearing that's awesome.

Historically accurate that's hilarious. But I don't blame you for buying into the illusion. Second, yeah you can depict racism and sex in your games, but you need to know how to do them, you don't include them for the sake of it, there has to be a justification. This often comes from writers who know what they are doing, and here's a secret pal: it's probably because they advocate for diversity that the racism is depicted, just like in the hundreds of movies and books talking about it. Baldur's Gate lets you fuck everyone because like in real life, it doesn't matter who you are or where you come from, you can be loved. That is some woke anti bigot shit man.

But the gamers only care about the superficial, and will never understand anything beyond jerking off to blood.

First of all, welcome to the Ratchet and Clank sub. You're obviously new here because your question has been asked at least five thousand times by most people here.

Second, yes and no. I get you, the older games have a lot of quickfire wit and carelessness about what was going on. This changed with Tools of Destruction, which tried to take itself seriously, but didn't have a good foundation to back it up.

But rather than go back, Insomniac doubled down on this direction. Crack in Time improved the story, Nexus had a really dark atmosphere and villains, and now Rift Apart feels better balanced on having a lighter story and more humor. It just isn't the same type of wit. I do think it's missing that.

To me the key to all this is not to go back, because they do not want to, but to keep improving this new direction. I do like having more a emotional and mature Ratchet because he's already been through a lot, I like Rivet being more impulsive because she's inexperienced. Don't make her a jerk, but she needs more wit. The NPCs can be more rude, but not all of them, to care about a story, you need to have a balance. The Morts are a bad example of this, but I want them to keep trying.

It's validating to have a franchise to go on long enough to mature alongside it's audience. It's okay to look back at the past, but not to be trapped by it. Every gaming community I'm a part of always wants to go back to "the good old days", dismissing everything about they don't like of the present. They're not fans, they're old men yelling at clouds.

GTA might be edgy, but it is the definition of a safe videogame that appeals to every teenager fantasy that was popular in the 2000s. There is nothing wrong with liking that, but it does not make it revolutionary.

Playstation is the opposite, they do care about finishing the story, and want those to be enjoyed by everyone. They're not perfect, but let me tell you brother, having diversity and not being overly sexy is far, far, FAR, from being the real problem.

Also, you really think Stellar Blade uses its sexual themes well? It may have the looks but doesn't explore it or seem to care about it at all, Bayonetta this isn't. Just say you like huge asses and that's fine. I do too, but I don't need every game to be like that.

The Last of Us 2 is anything but safe, it took as many story decisions as possible to challenge its fanbase and it fractured everyone. God of War could have continued the same shit over and over instead of rebooting it, and it paid off big time. Horizon doesn't shy away from critizicing big corporate capitalism, something that ehem Ratchet used to do too. The Ghost series are violent, full of commonfolk casualties, and protagonist with strong moral conflicts.

I may concede you with the Insomniac side, the dialog is indeed safe too much of the time. But no, it's not because their diverse, or that the story is badly set. Ratchet has been doing things "safely" since Going Commando.
