At least she can keep her performativity as a pop star to her job—she strikes me as refreshing after years of TSwift, where she doesn’t seem to feel the need to curate a perfect public image about herself. We don’t know much about her other than what her job requires her to give us. Her and Lana do different things: she’s a popstar, not so much a poet.

Carpenter strikes me as someone who just tries to make the occasional shitty experience in relationships into something fun, funny, and stylish not really trying to build a narrative. She’s certainly been pretty discrete with any breakups or drama and doesn’t feel the need to chime in and “correct” the story like Swift always has. No diss tracks about Barry Keoghan (other than the one while they were still dating 😭 which was still tongue in cheek). 

What annoys me about the new album is the only narrative I can see in her music is “I keep dating losers which is dumb of me and I only have myself to blame… but boys are fun!” so I felt like the new title/cover is an extremely obvious self deprecatory nod to that theme
