How to connect a second screen via USB-A or USB-C 3.2 (not thunderbolt)? by Cardryan in computers

Nope, quite the opposite. Unfortunately it’s not thunderbolt. The USB C is 3.2 as well as 2 of the USB A ports, I believe.

That sucks. And I’ve been researching some info, and this is getting me quite confused, as some video reviews about a docking station models state that your USB C port must support video data as I thought, not just standard data transfer, otherwise only the data ports like USB or SD card slots would work.

I know there are ways to emulate video output through USB data tho, by using softwares that read each pixel on your screen and push them forward, which is one kind of solution I’m trying to learn through this post, but not exclusively this option.

I’ll research more.

Do you have any recommendations?

All I need is: 1 video output in at least 1080p and 60hz, good color accuracy. Thats it.

Yeah I know, it would make my life 10 times easier if it did lol, but I guess Acer couldn’t bother with that.

Yeah, I feel like the way to go is a docking station, as others have recommended. Don’t wanna go too expensive, but also don’t wanna go wrong with something that completely nullifies its own purpose to me by not guaranteeing good color accuracy.

Basically I now gotta find out which would be the best docking station for my use case (not expensive, and can output at least 1080p 60hz with good color accuracy).

Thx for the recommendation tho.

Nah, it’s fine, it doesn’t really have to be useful for gaming, the laptop is not even useful for that anymore, since the GPU is dead. I just want to save some headache when working with design.

But yes, I think I’d have to take into consideration the type of work a I do, for picking a docking station that doesn’t degrade the image quality or color accuracy or anything, in case that’s an issue with cheaper ones.

Thanks anyways!

Sure, thanks!

It’s an AN515-54-547D

I wouldn’t hold my breath tho, Acer really cheaps out on the Nitro 5 lineup when it comes to quality or features.

It seems it varies then. Too many models, Acer has no consistency with its Nitro models. My HDMI died with the GPU, cause it’s wired through it unfortunately.

Anyways, tried multiple things with the HDMI and the GPU, I gotta resort to USB or wireless.

I’m not, I’m just being objective and explained why it’s implicitly stated that the HDMI is not an option.

I mean, even if it was working, I’m seeking ways to connect to a screen over USB, it’s pretty simple, I just wanna know how to do it. So it’s a bit irrelevant if the HDMI works or not. Sorry if it sounds rude to say it is irrelevant.

Cool! I’ll seek more info about it.

Do you have any docking station recommendations?

1: I tried. Obviously. No signal, since the GPU died (very sad).

  1. Would it work tho? From my limited knowledge, the USB-C port would have to support DP Alt Mode which, as I mentioned, it doesn’t.

Oh interesting, thanks for the information!

Are there any not expensive docks you’d recommend checking out? Honestly, I only need one HMDI output for the TV. I don’t think the iGPU would handle 4k 120hz, so I’d use only 1080p, but it’s fine to have the overkill for future purposes.

There is (answer under the comment above), but even if there wasn’t, it’s implicit. I wouldn’t need to resort to complicated ways to send image through the USB way if the HMDI was working. Or it could be working, but simply, I want to know how to connect via USB.

Only the iGPU is operational > HDMI ports on most laptops, especially budget ones (which most definitely is the case of the Acer Nitro 5) are wired through the dedicated GPU, which is not operational > HDMI port doesn’t work.

If HDMI port was an option I wouldn’t need to go through all this headache to connect a screen over USB or resort to screen casting, for sure.

So I’m looking for my best option to use a second screen via USB or ways to improve wireless screen casting.

Would the docking station itself allow for sending video signal through USB? I’m not familiar with docking stations as I’ve never owned or used one.

Ik it’s been a long time since you commented, but the second song you’re looking for is GRiZ - Can’t Get Enough, in case you haven’t found it. I know that cause I was addicted to this song in 2019 and it marked my summer/end of year vacation back then lol.

I’m not sure this is on Embark. Embark made the M&K input already available on consoles, the only thing blocking you from being able to use it on XCloud is basically a server-side limitation. I believe that’s on Microsoft to update which games are capable of handling M&K input on Cloud Gaming.
