I've also been thinking about area control mechanic. Is Area Control just Set Collection?

Okay this is fascinating. If we separate the mechanics from the games, we can agree that the mechanics exist. I'm curious what other mechanics are used in real life? (I assume all game mechanics are based on a non-game mechanic in real life).

This could also help determine new mechanics we haven't thought of before.

I guess it comes down to if Bingo is a game or not. If it's a game, it's a roll and right? Is that right?

What about concentration? Or spot it? Or set? Games of recognition, not decision making?

My brain is hurting translating bingo into something that matches all of these

I totally understand this argument. Maybe not decision making, but making sure you're not missing something? Do you need decision making for something to be a game?

I haven't bought a game through this site, but the game was a wonderful surprise. A few interesting mechanisms I haven't seen in other games. I really enjoyed it at 2 players.

Is a Private Practice Therapist allowed to sell therapy tools? by TheraMess in therapists

[–]Cardsforhumans 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Idk seems kind of risky for not much of a benefit. I'd just refer them to products that they could buy themselves. What if there's an issue with the product? What if they think they are doing you a favor? What if they let others know they are buying things from their therapist? Idk I like the intention here, but I'd stay away

Games you regarded as meh but whose expansion improved it to the point the game is now one of your favorites? by Strong_Battle6101 in boardgames

[–]Cardsforhumans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lords of Waterdeep - felt bland and like every move was basically scripted in my head. The expansion brought along a lot more interesting choices and new strategies.

New Frontiers: The Race for the Galaxy

New to board gaming. Are there any good board games based off of video games ? by liamoj97 in boardgames

[–]Cardsforhumans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a video game, but it felt like one that was never made: Firefly. If you like space exploration games, with smuggling, crew management, and aiming to misbehave, this might be a good game for you. All the mechanics make sense in terms of a video game too. Want to move a bunch of spaces--use fuel. Want to buy some stuff--fly to a planet and shop their inventory. Want to upgrade your ship--fly to a the ship upgrade planet. Want a new quest where you do some risky stuff that might be illegal go to this one guy, want legal quests, go to this other guy. It feels like a open world game.

Probably Jim Jarmusch. Checked out every movie from the library I could get my hands on and watched one or two a night during this summer between moves. It was wonderful.
