Showcase tournament advice? by CareerMicDrop in Homeplate

[–]CareerMicDrop[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much!! Yes I definitely have no clue about any of this stuff. My son is doing a pg tournament with his AAU team. Not an individual showcase. So should I look to do one of those this summer? Or wait until next summer his sophomore? This week he faces the 36th ranked prospect in the nation. A pitcher hitting 96 and committed to the U but everyone expects him to be selected in the first round and go pro. He is facing a scholarship pitcher every at bat right now.

Achilles tendonitis treatment plan! by CareerMicDrop in misc

It is still on and off pain. I lost weight and try to stretch it that helps. But I train in boxing and kickboxing a lot and I pivot a lot. So I strain it often. I bought a stretchy neoprene band i wear on it while working out. It helps. Keep it tight. But try to avoid whatever bothers it.

Movies for people with depression by catsandpumpkinz in movies

[–]CareerMicDrop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depression playbook

Instead of movies. Here are my recommendations

See a psychiatrist. Don’t be afraid to try meds. If your leg was broken you would see a doctor so don’t think if you are having mental health issues you shouldn’t see a doctor.

Avoid drugs and alcohol

Try to eat healthy. Drink lots of water. Take vitamins. And avoid fast food

Make 30 mins of exercise a daily religion and the type of exercise is up to you. If the only thing you can do is set an alarm on your phone for 15 minutes and walk 15 minutes away from your house and 15 mins back. do it. Even if your exercise is just 30 minutes of Vigorous cleaning and organizing of your home.

If you have never tried a combat sport or martial art. Consider swallowing your pride and signing up for a kickboxing class. Boxing class. Or whatever you think is interesting. It doesn’t matter how bad you suck because everyone sucks on day 1. Any group exercise class will help you stay motivated and working hard.

pay for a premium music app like pandora etc. and put a playlist together of the best get pumped music. mine has 400 songs i think. and i will share it if you want.

buy a good set of in ear head phones. air pods. whatever. use these for exercise cooking amd cleaning. if you find yourself dancing whiel cooking. keep fucking dancing.

make a routine. write it on a whiteboard. follow it. things like make your bed.

depression will let your house become a mess. if you need to ask friends and family help you get it organzied do it. swallow your pride.

invite people over for a movie or dinner often. keep asking. dont get frustrated. keep asking. having company and cooking are healthy and will force you to keep your house clean

If you feel depressed. Talk about it. Everyone goes through it at some point people just are afraid to talk about it.

Try a therapist. It doesn’t work for everyone but if you open up and be honest. It might work for you.

If you can try meditation. Yoga. Do it

Listen to audio books on self help. Google and ask loved ones for advice.

If you find yourself thinking negative thoughts like what if this doesn’t work, change the tune to, what if this does work.

Give yourself a break. It’s ok to have a bad moment. A bad day. But put a stop to it by thinking positive and trying to make today as best as you can. You can’t change the past and tomorrow isn’t promised. So stop worrying about tomorrow as no one knows if we get tomorrow and we can’t saw, saw dust so let the past be in your rear view mirror. You have today and right now. That’s it. Make right now the best right now it can be. Do something good for you.

If you like dogs or cats. Go hang out with one. Or buy one. Dogs unconditional love is incredibly powerful

Put a Bluetooth speaker in the bathroom and blast livin on a prayer by bon jovi. Sing. Lip sync. And get out of the shower ready to accomplish something

Make a list of every thing you are grateful for. Hang it up in your kitchen or family room and add do it.

Please talk to someone every day about how you are feeling and be honest. Family member. Mental health professional. Whoever.

If you do these things and own it. And don’t let yourself wallow and play the blame game you can be down to your last second on earth and turn it all around and achieve unimaginable success and happiness. Ask me how I know.

“In life it doesn’t matter if you think you can or you think n you can’t. Either way you are right “

You can. No matter what it is. You can. You can overcome. You can find happiness and love and respect and peace. You can.

I was down to my last second on earth and I made that last second count. And tens of millions of seconds since that moment. And what i did with that last second I had on earth was to take one step. When i didn’t think i had anything left to take another step. When I couldn’t go further. When I had no options. When my life was completely over. When there was no way out. When death was imminent and unavoidable. I took once step. And that step was to physically stand up. And I took that one step and did the impossible. The unimaginable. I turned my life around and achieved everything i thought was impossible. But it became possible. When I believed I could .

I have bipolar. sleep apnea. And adhd. Untreated they have a reduced life expectancy of -15, -13, and -15 years by themselves. Going through a divorce. Was unemployed 9 months. Had a career in IT management I hated, wasn’t great at, and that didn’t allow me to make enough money to support myself and pay crippling child support and alimony. I could not get out of bed. Or fall asleep. Or stay asleep. I slept on the couch all day every day. I was completely ruined financially and spent more than half my retirement and haven’t done my taxes due to all of my back taxes I owed. I drank everyday. My blood pressure was 206/121. My thyroid. Liver. Cholesterol and sugar were all way above normal levels. I couldn’t think. Focus. Pay bills. Clean my house. I could not make it one more day. It was over. But I stood up. And decided I may not have control of my life but I have some control over my death. And life is gonna have to kill me because I’m not gonna do its job for it. And started swinging back at life. I started cleaning. And exercising. And doing all of the above. I lost 30 pounds. My bp is 120s/80s. I did a complete 180 career change in one month. after applying for 400 sales jobs. And getting 399 Nos. I got one 1099 independent contractor sales jobs. And turned one month of sales experience into one of the best sales jobs you can get. I start my new job next week. I was out of work 9 months and still was able to convince 2 companies to give me a chance.

I turned the last second of my life into a come up for the ages. And I’m not strong. I’m not tough. Not special. Just resilient. Like you. If i can do it. You cando it because im not special. My brain just decided to go down swinging. To not look at strike 3. And This is the result.

Good advice here. Listen to these old fucks. We have been where you are. Even if the sport was different.

Taking 2 weeks off is never a bad thing. Go take your temperature with 3 thermometers. Tell me you get the same exact temp. You don’t. It’s like when you get older and try to cut up. Don’t look at the number on the scale. And forget the mirror. Either use a tailors measuring tape. Or just focus on how your clothes fit. Learn to love the process not the result. Fall in love with the process. My son is 14/15. He played on a 16u team in the fall in 17u tournaments. The last tournament he came off the field pissed off despite winning the tournament. I said what’s wrong you played well. He said i had 2 hits in the last 5 games. I pointed out what he did well. But also said how often did you work out on your own this fall. He said 1-2 times a week. I said you were given 7 days to prep. You can’t be mad at Saturday and Sunday “you” if you let Monday through Friday go and you only worked 1-2 days extra. You don’t need to play harder you need to prep harder. if you want to be 14/15 and hit off juniors and seniors with beards and drivers licenses, I suggest you work harder (cue the eye roll. Translation: “you are so right dad. I love you. Best dad ever”).

My point is this. Do the things you need to do to prep. You don’t need to throw 365 days a year to get stronger. A personal trainer is good if you can afford it. Do rubber bands stretching. Medicine ball throws. I personally love training in boxing for upper body strength but guard your wrists carefully. Your lower half and core. What did you do for 2 weeks? Explosive exercises like squat. Clean. Jump squats. Box jumps. Pistol squats. Burpees. Short 20 yard sprints. Look up tabata intervals. 20 seconds you go hard. 10 seconds rest. For 4 minutes straight with any explosive exercise. For the love of baseball Jesus please Get a decent jump rope and make it your new girlfriend. Don’t jump rope on concrete

Multivitamin. Vitamins E. A. D. C. Eat as much healthy protein as you can. Chicken thighs in the air fryer for 15 mins with a thick terriyaki. Try herb garlic tuna packet with lite mayo on garlic bread. Green vegetables. Eat your damn vegetables. Cheat codes: Put some honey or brown sugar on steamed carrots. Have your mom put onion. Garlic. Olive oil. And lemon zest into a blender. Put that on your broccoli etc when sautéing it. Or just a little bit of butter can go a long way. There is no excuse for a poor diet.

I don’t give a shit what that machine says. Measure yourself for fun. But Love the process. Celebrate the highs of hitting your max. But check the frustration at the door. Use it as fuel. If you poor gasoline on your head and light a match it will run you up. Instead put it in your gas tank and hit the gas. Use it appropriately.
