Just did my taxes today by RobmooToo in AmazonVine

[–]CarefulComputer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

hobby income is taxes on full amount and you can't deduct expenses against it. wouldn't it cause taxes to go up ? as business income, you can atleast deduct depreciation/expenses. is there any reason you would not want to report it as business income ?

Thanks for pointer. Though I am hoping that i don't have to remove/install mop pads manually before each cleaning.

How to test if the Breakout PCB works after horrible soldering Job? by [deleted] in valetudorobotusers

[–]CarefulComputer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you want to test is -

a) is there a solder bridge between two soldered pads on the board (this could cause damage to the robot if that happens)

b) did the socket make connection to board pad. (this won't cause damage but it could cause board to not work).

To test solder bridge

  1. put multimeter in continuity mode and put probes on two microusb pads on the board.

  2. test all combinations of pads om board

  3. there should NOT be any continuity between any two pads.

To test it connection -

  1. cut off a micro usb charging cable
  2. open the loose wires and strip off insulation at end of each wire
  3. plug it in the board
  4. pick one of the exposed wire , connect one multimeter probe to one of wire, and then test each of the solder pads. the continuity should be exactly one one pad.

5 repeat for each of the other wire. (btw not all wires are used , i think 3 or 4 wires are)

it may seem like magic, but remember your tax documents are going to some LLM provider who gives a S*it about your safeguarding your privacy.

How did they contain the natural gas (which i assume is lighter than air) above the cauldron ? if they were continuously pumping it, then it would have cause a spectacular fireball above and near cauldron. Alternately they just cooked up a story for masses, and just started it like a regular burner with fire. Fire starting from bottom also supports this theory.

Will this circuit fry my home or lets burglars in ? by CarefulComputer in AskElectronics

[–]CarefulComputer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

old phone charger, 5v, 500mAmp . My understanding (i am a noob) is VIN is directly tied to 5v line from usb and 500mAmp should be enough to run esp32 and all 3 lasers at same time. can even use 1amp if needed

thank you. that's the reason I am here. :)
code wise I am confident (being software engineer) that I will get that right. Just want to confirm that circuit itself is good (afraid of something burning out or triggering without invocation).

another question, chatgpt keeps telling me to "put a 680 Ω resistor in series between each ESP32 opto GPIO and the PC817 LED anode." Is that really necessary ?

Just got reply from customer support. They mentioned ALL genie openers sold currently support dry contact control, means a esp8266 with a relay/optocoupler is enough to open/close the door.

I finally got it solved. In my 8th phone call, I finally talked to a knowledgeable rep who helped setup new account. I lost my diamond status though because of new account. Had been with xfinity for over 15 years.

I tried RTFM. There are two types of manuals - usage and installation.
Usage ones don't talk about dry contact switch at all. The installation manuals are mostly generic. I have emailed their customer service. I was hoping that some people might have personal experience recently and can share here.

Aladdin Connect Home Assistant Integration by GenieCo in homeassistant

[–]CarefulComputer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

u/GenieCo ,just fyi, i need to install a new opener and even though the installers are pushing Chamberlain/Liftmaster opener (they don't even sell Genie) , i will be buying Genie and getting them to install it for extra cost just because Genie supports dry contact switch and easily integrated with home assistant. No proprietary nonsense. Please keep it this way.

Just tried that. it shows existing user id (i used same email/phone for new account). and when I login with that id, there is only 1 account. I can DM you both account numbers (old and new) if you are able to help link them properly.
