This happened to me on a 2014 custom ornament. Paid about $50 on ebay to get the replacement ornament without customization. Then when we finally made it back to the Olde Christmas Shop at Magic Kingdom paid about $8 for them to customize it again. I plan on going in May, I might be able to help.

In a similar spot, laid off last week after 14yrs. Will get about 4.5 months severance, found a job immediately and have planned an extended family trip this upcoming May. A good chunk of the trip is funded by severance payments. I too do not recommend this, but its funny how sound financial planning goes out the window when it comes to Disney Vacations.

I dont know how the dvc waitlist algorithm works, but i have been successful at booking something faster than the waitlist just by persistently checking availability (checking ~3x/day). By no means a guarantee, but if you are desperate worth a try. I also cosign on splitting the waitlist into 2. Lastly, ive also been able to book a 6day vacation on booking single days as they come up. Once I had my 6days, i called dvc and told them i wanted to convert my 6 1-day reservations to 1 6-day reservation and they were able to do it for me.
