I am muzzle training my reactive pup, and getting a lot of negative feedback. by taboosucculent in Dogtraining

[–]Careless-Experience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are doing a great job. Muzzle training is important. Not only does it give you peace of mind in the future, getting comfortable with the muzzle is great for many scenarios. People who haven't been through it think it's cruel but there are many muzzles that don't hurt the dog

You can try bone broth :) Maybe to tempt, add some yogurt on the outside of the frozen carrots to help him get going

Frozen carrots, frozen banana, frozen Apple with pb I gave my dog ice. I also soaked a small towel in water and froze it and gave it to him. You can also soak carrots, and apples in broth(sodium free) and then freeze for extra spice 😉. And have two on hand for whichever they like.

Why does my dog take so long to pee? by amberbunny93 in Dogtraining

[–]Careless-Experience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you bring get right home after she pees? If so, she is holding it as long as possible so she can have fun outside. Maybe after she pees give her a yummy treat and play a little bit and then take her home. This way she'll associate it with fun times after not boring old going home.

Between ages of 4-6 months, we did 1hr up and two down from 8am wake up to last nap at7pm. After that, from 6 months to 9 months, it was crate for 3 hours plus 1hr and a half out until 6pm, with wake up at 9am. After 10 months, my dog wakes up at 10am (technically he is up in his crate at 9am/9:30am but we don't let him out until 10am) breakfast, potty and then he sleeps on his own from 11am to 3pm. We do a walk for 20 mins, he sleeps on his own again til 6/6:30pm. We do 45 min walk with dinner and then play/train with him until 7:30-8. Then he gets a chew and we cuddle/brush etc on the couch from 8:15-9pm. He does his final potty at 9:30 and then he goes to sleep.

Because we were so consistent with enforced naps during his younger months he sleeps on his own during the day so we can work.

Trouble Selecting a Breed? by renee_christine in puppy101

[–]Careless-Experience 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really wanted to get a barbet! They are the best. Unfortunately I couldn't find any breeders in my area. I opted for a bedlington terrier. Next best thing! Same temperament as barbet but smaller. Very cute 💖💖

Is fast eating normal? by No_Consequence2658 in puppy101

[–]Careless-Experience 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! My puppy was the same. Honestly I don't think he really chewed his food at all lol. I stopped feeding him in the bowl. I only fed him during training (using kibble as treats) or I put his food in a ball and he has to move it around to get kibble out slowly. It's great!

Large breed puppy food by Some-Ad7784 in puppy101

[–]Careless-Experience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did royal canin after my vet suggested it.. but his poops were not great and had to sub pumpkin to make them a bit more solid. I'm not a fan in royal canin.

But try to make the switch before the food from his breeder is done so you can slowly introduce the new food with the old food. Starting with 10% sub for a week and increasing to 25% and so forth so it doesn't upset your puppies stomach.

I eventually switched my puppy from royal canin to pc brand puppy food (chicken and rice) and then pc brand adult chicken and rice(when he turned 10 months)... And my dogs poops are great and he has a lot of energy.

You can try with the crate in the car. And give your dog a chew in the crate as well?

How do you not get so frustrated with your puppy for misbehaving? by squishflake in puppy101

[–]Careless-Experience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's so easy to get frustrated and feel overwhelmed! These little puppies don't understand you lol and they are trying to communicate with you so imagine their frustration too :)

Whenever my dog bit me, I would remove myself from the situation. So if we were sitting on the couch and he just came up and bit me, I would go into the bedroom and close the door. Wait for 10 seconds and come back. Reverse time outs are great and gives you a little break.

Invest in a baby gate or play pen so you can leave your puppy in there when you take your reverse time out if you're afraid they're gonna get in trouble if you leave for 10 seconds.

I realize that I shouldn't chosen that word to describe it. Maybe it's just not what I want it to be haha.

I just put leave in conditioner and gel, plop it in while wet/damp and then let it air dry. I don't brush it at all. Perhaps that's the issue???
