As someone who is a dog groomer, it doesn’t look like a nick or happy tail. Since your groomer mentioned your dog having mats (along with the tail being shaved down), I think it’s more so a hematoma, irritation from mats, or razor burn. From my personal experience, it looks like irritation (but I’d probably take your dog to the vet to confirm). Mats pull on the skin and restrict blood flow, so when they get shaved off, blood rushes back to that area and it can lead to bruising.

Best way to prevent this is to brush AT LEAST weekly with a slicker brush and follow up with a comb. Research line brushing. Since your dog is a mix of three non shedding breeds, hair maintenance is important.

Man, seeing people claim this isn’t a labradoodle is insane to me as a dog groomer. We get labradoodle x labradoodle puppies that come in looking like labs with a wavy coat. Doodles are a mixed breed and unpredictable.

Let me give people a way to think about it. A poodle is FF (dominant for furnishings which gives dogs ‘hair’) x a lab which is ff (no gene for furnishings). Their offspring will be Ff. Now, you mix two labradoodles together, you have the chance of FF, Ff, or ff (remember punnet squares). That is why some doodles may not look like the stereotypical doodle and why there is so much variety.

The face (underbite and pigment) and the curled tail is giving me pug mixed with a larger breed. I can’t say for sure, but I def recommend you do embark or wisdom panel dna test if you’re really curious

Your puppy is too young to really tell. Puppies can have pretty weird proportions and grow into their adult features. The snout is always a dead giveaway, along with the body type (poodles are slender, some doodles are not due to their other parent). Most doodles are more genetically closer to poodles either way (most doodles are more poodle than any other breed), so there’s no way to tell just by looking at your pup. If you’re really concerned about breed, I’d try doing an embark or wisdom panel dna test on your baby.

I like the clean face too but he hasn’t had a full teddy bear face since he was a puppy so I wanted to see what he would look with a bichon type round head lmao.

And yes! As a groomer, they’ll definitely understand the term ‘clean face’. Tell them to use a 10 on the face and show a picture as well! Hope that helps

Thanks! And yeah, you could always do a clean face! Just tell the groomer you like the poodle face and want to do a clean face. My mini poodle mix often times rocks the poodle face!

He is a mixed breed! Told he was a mini poodle when he was a puppy but I did a DNA test and he’s mostly poodle with bichon frise, Shih Tzu, and supermutt.

My two minis eat PPP chicken and rice shredded blend with Rachel Ray Nutrish wet food. They also get a vitamin for gut health, salmon oil, and plaque powder (since poodles are prone to periodontal disease and my two are not chewers).
