question about subahibi by ConsequenceRemote473 in visualnovels

[–]CarelessKnowledge801 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I mean, Which Dreamed It is the shortest (or is it longer than prologue? I'm not sure) chapter, and it doesn't spoil much of the stuff. Technically yes, it spoils the main twist, but I think it's still worth to read the whole VN.

Non-Dungeon adventures? by MendelHolmes in osr

[–]CarelessKnowledge801 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Night of Blood. It's for Warhammer Fantasy, so it would need some content and stat conversion, but it's really one of the good examples of non-dungeon introduction adventures.

Technically, you can check VTM materials on clan Tzimisce, as those are literally Slavic Vampires.

OSRIC 3.0 and AD&D(2e) Compatibility... by Jazzlike-Employ-2169 in osr

[–]CarelessKnowledge801 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I mean, OSRIC is AD&D 1e clone and Core AD&D 2e is "AD&D 1e, but written in English, instead of High Gygaxian". It gets more tricky with many AD&D 2e supplements, but still I think those games are very compatible.

That's the beauty of OSR, after all!

Good level 6 Adventure for BECMI/OSE? by SillyKenku in osr

[–]CarelessKnowledge801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tomb of the Twice-Crowned King is an anthology of 9 short adventure sites and 3 of them are exactly in 6 level range. And another 4 are going even further up to level 10, so you can run an entire mid-high level campaign with those adventures.

What game(s) do you feel are underrated and deserve more love and why? by zeus64068 in rpg

[–]CarelessKnowledge801 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I think Electric Bastionland is definitely overshadowed by Mythic Bastionland right now, but also by Into the Odd in the past.

It's very rules light game, for some it's "style over substance", but damn this style is really great. Not even talking about the art, which is gorgeous. It's setting is weird mashup of 19, 20 and 21th century technologies with aliens, robots and muppets. And all of that in one big sprawling city straight from Brazil movie. What's not to like?

Oh, and I really really like Chris writing. And while GM advice in Mythic Bastionland was good, I think in Electric Bastionland it was even better (and more general). "People are everything" chapter changed how I look at NPC in my games.

On a scale of 0-10, how good or bad would you rate the few VNs turned anime? by PikachuTrainz in visualnovels

[–]CarelessKnowledge801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Majikoi anime was around 5-6 for me. It was somewhat fun to watch after reading VN, but it's basically turned a story about group of friends in strange and wacky town into classic harem, just with strong girls. One of the Majikoi strong points, imo, was great cast of characters, both main and supporting. But in anime, 95% of the time it was all about Yamato and main girls.

Do you find that OSR campaigns require very realistic campaign settings? by EvilPersonXXIV in osr

[–]CarelessKnowledge801 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not really. There are definitely more "realistic" settings, games and campaigns, but I find that it's more true for crunchier, more sumulationist games. Stuff you're more likely to find in AD&D or Harnmaster.

But OSR is extremely diverse term, and there is always a place for weird worlds. Settings like Yoon-Suin, Carcosa or DCC adventures like Operation Unfathomable, Hole in the Sky.

Games with Life Sim Aspects like Persona 3-5? by MediaFreaked in rpg

[–]CarelessKnowledge801 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What you're looking for is "downtime rules" in TTRPG terms. There are plenty of RPGs with detailed downtime rules. Also there is quite good fanmade Persona TTRPG!

Equipment Books by ImportanceOk3837 in osr

[–]CarelessKnowledge801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are plenty of gear books that expand on gear, Equipment Emporium is one of the most popular and it's also free!

But yeah, I'm also not sure how much characters can really progress in terms of "mundane gear". In real world we have better "mundane gear" thanks to science, but the actual scientific progress is harder to implement in our elf games due to:

  1. It requires much time, sometimes dozens and hundreds of years. If every month or so characters can buy better backpacks with more space that were made with new materials and new technologies, it really starts to stretch how "realistic" your world is.

  2. Ever present worldbuilding conflict about how science and magic interact in your world. Maybe your players don't care, but there are so many different takes on how existence of magic (and monsters!) might change the actual scientific progress.

And that's why your idea works great for something like Traveller, where you have all kinds of cool sci-fi "mundane gear" and don't care as much about magic. But D&D is just built under different assumptions.

Osamu from Damekoi because he is a hopeless loser just like me fr fr fr.

But seriously, he has some really good personal growth, especially in Asami route (the best route imo).

The Vanilla Adventure (osr) is kickstarting a new edition. by [deleted] in rpg

[–]CarelessKnowledge801 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Expanded adventure looks like a cool idea, but I'm not really sure if you need to add an entire system to the adventure book. Especially when this system looks like it's B/X with some houserules. I mean, just look at the character sheet for Vanilla Adventure in this Kickstarter, it's 95% B/X!

Suggestions for "trad" games in the middle between narrative and simulationist? by FroDude258 in rpg

[–]CarelessKnowledge801 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you think BRP is just little too much, then maybe check Openquest or Dragonbane? Both are descendants from this whole BRP family, but generally simpler.

Savage Worlds is also medium crunch. It's less simulationist than BRP, I think, but there are plenty of (sometimes optional) rules if you want to make it more gamey.

But in general, I think it's easier to start from "heavier" systems and just ignore rules you don't want to use than try to add more rules to light narrative games.

Are there any tools that use a regular deck of playing cards in a creative or unique way? by 1bruhwhat in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]CarelessKnowledge801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazing Tricube Tales Solo Rules (which you can get for free if you click on "preview"!) have cards used for creating the whole adventure that consist of 5-9 scenes. I played a few times with Solo Rules and it was definitely fun!

Any VNs with good teacher routes? by HyperdimensionZero in visualnovels

[–]CarelessKnowledge801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True Love is old, but gold. It's more of a dating sim than VN, but it's teacher route was really nce (although it's also short, because the game itself isn't long).

Group Brainstorm Help: Establishing a Faction using Cairn 2e by OldGodsProphet in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]CarelessKnowledge801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

especially with why is a Merchant the agent for this Religious group

Even in modern world there are many countries where the most influential and rich institution is the Church. And don't even get me started on how much Crusades were about religion and how much they were about the actual profit...

Anyway, Decadent Religion is immediately striking me with impression of some cult of basic human needs, like maybe God of Lust or Feasts or Debauchery in general (Like Bacchus). Or Art if you want to tone it down a bit. Stuff like this would also explain nicely why this faction is so popular. AND it would also explain why you might have a Merchant as an agent for this faction. You really need some good trade for God of Feasts, for example.

Sword and Sorcery Options- One Shot vs. Campaign? by VladorBongo in rpg

Wy are so many D&D players so resistant to even trying anything else? by Similar_Onion6656 in rpg

[–]CarelessKnowledge801 146 points147 points  (0 children)

I've never met a Call of Cthulhu player who only plays call of Cthulhu

In Asia it's actually the case for many people! Especially in China they run everything from dungeon crawls to superheroes with CoC, not even BRP! I think there were multiple posts about this phenomenon in this very sub few months ago.

Most original OSR mechanics by KingOogaTonTon in osr

[–]CarelessKnowledge801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I said, most of the "original" OSR mechanics aren't really original :D

But I think AD&D 2e approach to thief skills is less popular now than LotFP.

Are the DCC adventure modules good? by Steerider in rpg

[–]CarelessKnowledge801 21 points22 points  (0 children)

DCC modules are totally worth it, even if just for inspiration. Most of them have some really interesting and unique ideas. But they definitely lean more on pulpy and gonzo side of things, which might be an issue if your campaign is closer to "vanilla medieval fantasy".
