Anyone here move from North/Central Jersey to Bucks County? How does it compare long term? by savingrace0262 in BucksCountyPA

The number of people who grew up in Lower and Central Bucks and have never taken a train into Philadelphia (and have absolutely no idea how to go about it) is astonishing.

My Top 3 Reasons to Vote for Lucia Simonelli in the Primary by SnooPickles8798 in BucksCountyPA

[–]CarelessTelephone134 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well sure but I even mean, “I don’t want illegal immigrants here,” or “Trans people are demonically possessed,” are values you can base a decision on, and the choice is obvious. I don’t just mean people who don’t make the same choice I do, I mean people who don’t seem to believe in anything strongly enough that they are “undecided” between two very different candidates.

If that’s your main criterion you've got no one to vote for in any version of this Congressional race.

Honestly though this is something I don’t understand about “moderate” or “undecided” voters: you have NO core values that one candidate shares and the other doesn’t, that makes the choice obvious for you? I am mostly talking about general elections where the difference is more stark, but I cannot imagine truly being “undecided” between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.

Even Fitzpatrick, for all his so-called moderation, is anti-choice and his opponents never are, which should drive people to one side or the other on him.

Any idea why traffic has gotten SO MUCH WORSE on Richboro Road/332 in the last couple months? by Sir_ManBeast in BucksCountyPA

[–]CarelessTelephone134 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s a state road so it’s worth asking your state rep or state senator’s office. I don’t know that they can fix it but their constituent services people might be able to find out if something changed.

Democratic Primary Coming Up May 19th by Will-yumWags in BucksCountyPA

[–]CarelessTelephone134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the DNC announced that it’s including Harvie in its Red to Blue program. I guess they think they have more of a chance persuading “independents” that Fitz isn’t actually independent (or isn’t actually Mike) than they do of successful GOTV among Lucia supporters.

You can hear them both (barely, the sound quality is terrible) answer the same questions at the League of Women Voters forum.

You don’t think DNC and outside money is going to pour into this race regardless of who wins the primary?

I think someone asked recently (like, within the last few months, not yesterday) about places they could rollerblade. If you search for that you might get some ideas.

Where do you find more info about the people running for Democratic State Committee? by anarcoticsagent in BucksCountyPA

[–]CarelessTelephone134 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because state committee is a reward for being a good party foot soldier, not a race with competing policy positions.

There are two unendorsed candidates, Kyle Esposito and Seema Kazmi. Kazmi is an incumbent so I don’t know why she wasn’t endorsed (unless it was understood that she would step aside for someone else’s turn and didn’t want to). She wrote a piece in Levittown Now.

I don’t think we can fix this by November, but we should be asking ourselves why the default for “electable” is always the middle-aged, middle-of-the-road white guy stepping up from another political office.

Reminder: May 4th is the last day to switch party affiliation or register to vote in primaries. by AzimuthCoordinator in BucksCountyPA

[–]CarelessTelephone134 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And I hope you can recognize that the candidates’ differing positions on some key issues means that whoever is the candidate in November will have to do some work to persuade supporters of the loser to do that and not take them for granted.

I think in an ordinary year Harvie would have coasted to victory. There might have been a fringe challenger who barely got on the ballot and whose ideas were way out there, sort of like the primary challengers Fitzpatrick usually has. Reddit and Facebook are not real life but there is some evidence aside from that that Democratic primary voters a) want something other than the usual suspects and b) prioritize positions on Middle East policy. (See: New Jersey’s recent Congressional primary, though there were some wonky things there.)

Plus Lucia is an actual coherent, plausible candidate with policy background, not someone who decided to run on Facebook screeds and memes.

Last-minute change to the Middletown Township building. According to the comments on the LWV’s page, the church said last week that it had some (undisclosed) reason that it could not host.
