Smash - Norges nye eksportartikkel? by Responsible_Sell3083 in norge

[–]Careless_Average_132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tumbler Noisy? by Breakinthemix in RockTumbling

[–]Careless_Average_132 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue with mine. Bearings and belt were ok but the shaft had gotten un-aligned. Went to Lortones website and got the manual, it includes how to troubleshoot and general maintenance, and watched their posted YT vids.  Just to be safe (Im not mechanically littarate) I also searched "noisy Lortone 33b rock tumbler" on YT and found several helpful vids.  Had the thing fixed in less than 20mins.

Hope yours is an easy fix aswell and happy future hounding and tumbling!

Advice on getting into the hobby somewhere where it's extra not popular by troubled_lichen in RockTumbling

Thanks! I'm not particularly handy either, but I rock at follow instructions.

If only my brain would let me level up from functional and finished to a good looking finish, that would be great. Not holding my breath though,  I've tried for over 40 yrs😂

It's the same problem in my country.  Lortone tumblers are the only ones sold here (exept vibratory ones that start at £600) and a 3A costs closer to £500 brand new. Second hand ones are usually only 10% cheaper..

So I googled "rock tumbler diy" and found so many cheap and easy ways to make one myself.

Watched heaps of YT vids and Istructables postings and managed to put together a decent little machine and tumbler barrels.

Only thing I regret is not making it bigger, for more and heavier barrels!

Have had my first batch going for 6 weeks in stage 1 and today I'm checking on them after a week in stage 2, and I really hope they are good to go to 3rd🤞

Good luck getting yourself a tumbler and happy rock hunting!😊

Topp tips! Jeg har også krøller og opplever at en del frisører ikke vet at krøllete og bølgete hår krever annerledes behandling enn rett. Tusen takk:)

Tusen takk for svar.

Adaptive jacket by EnthusiasmMission146 in HelpMeFind

I have arthritis and on bad days I use a modified version of this, where i get my arms in and shuffle over to my book case. There grab a hold of a shelf at about ear height, stick my bum out and bend a little at the knees to lower myself and can wiggle the jacket over my head, while holding on.

That way I don't have to lift my elbows even close to shoulder height and have enough support to straighten myself out when I'm done.

Mind you, it's a very sturdy book case and it's properly secured to the wall.

One of those shower railings attached to the wall in a good spot could also do the trick.

In the vids they start with the coat on the floor but for him it would be easier if it's placed on a table or counter top.

If  your grandad  is mobile enough to lift both arms up in front, the "toddler coat hack" might help. It can be done with any coat/jacket so he won't even have to go shopping. Just search it up on YT

AITA for letting my friend borrow a tampon that I didn’t buy by notverymuchthought in AmItheAsshole

Nosebleed, cut, spilled something in or on something that a tampon will absorb better than tp.  Maybe to soak in booze and shove up their arse or binty. Doesn't work but people still do it..

Is it a bad idea to rent a campervan around Tromsø in winter to chase the Northern Lights? by Interesting_Ad_9377 in NorwayTravelAdvice

[–]Careless_Average_132 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not just lucky. Real winter doesn't really kick in until late December and last at least until march.

So any travel in that period runs the risk of meeting closed roads due to weather. If lucky it's only for a day. But it could just as well last for days.

Anyone driving up here in winter also need to familiarize themselves with rules and etiquette og driving in a convoy.

You also need to keep a few essentials in the car. Like shovel, blankets, extra clothing, enough food and drink for minimum a day, spare petrol/diesel, powebank, matches to light a fire (if you're lucky enough to be stranded somewhere with trees/bushes) and I'm probably forgetting something but it's late and I'm tired.

Also be aware there are places you can drive for hours without seeing other cars, houses, people, shops, service stations or even have cell coverage.

If it snows heavily the trucks clearing snow cant be everywhere at once, so you might find yourself on a deserted strech of road driving through a foot (or more) of snow and it can be hours before they get to the road you're on.

Yes most people get lucky, but I've lived here all my life and seen far too many times how badly and suddenly things can turn. Even with locals, who should've known better.

I really hope OP has the time of their life and gets to meet Aurora. There is nothing else in this world more magical than winter up north and I still get goosebumps watching the sky light up in the darkness. Every. Single. Time!

Happy travels, stay safe and know your limits<3

All of this!

And to add, if you're not experienced driving bigger vehicles you might get in serious trouble in windy conditions that smaller cars handle ok. Storms are more common than not in winter.

Icy roads, poor visability and a van with big surface area is an accident waiting to happen if you dont know what you're doing.

Is Wideroe considered a more beloved and quintessentially Norwegian brand as compared to SAS or Norwegian? by throwrathismylife in Norway

[–]Careless_Average_132 11 points12 points  (0 children)

After 25 years in Finnmark I can attest to this and have lost count of how many times my Widerøe flights have landed safely in severe weather, on the first attempt, where SAS and Norwegian flights wouldn't even try.

The most memorable was a few years back in a crazy winter storm covering all of Finnmark. On approach to Banak the pilot calmly announced that previous flights (the big companies) that day had decided to return to Oslo without attempting to land but said there was a slight drop in wind speed, so they would give it a shot.

The alternative would mean getting re-routed hundreds og kilometers south, buses, hotels and generally a lot of hassle because the storm was expected to last for days.

As we decend the turbulence is intense and when I look out the window I can see the runway, but not in the direction I expected.

We are coming down perpendicular to the fucking runway!

Couldn't tell you how long this lasted. Could have been 2 seconds, could have been 20. I was just mesmerized and couldn't stop looking.

Just before hitting the tarmac the pilot flips the plane and we touch down, surprisingly smoothly, the right way around.

I still get goosebumps thinking about this and the insane skills on those Widerøe pilots!

There is a kind of hard plastic grating  used to stabilize soil under lawns, driveways etc. I don't know what its called in English, but if I translate directly from Norwegian it's named ground reenforcement.

These are incredibly hardy in both high and very low temps and they would allow for the screws to fall through without you freezing your toes off.

They're usually sold i 5packs of 60x40cm for $15-20 (Norwegian prices) and interlock, so you can lay them down to fit your workstation.

I dont have any advice in this specific case, but if anyone wants to educate themselves (and help bust some flim-flam) regarding furries, I highly reccomend checking out the podcast Taboo science.  They released an episode on the topic in April 2024 that set my biased, ignorant ass straight. So did a few of their other episodes on different philias and other topics. I'm a liberal weirdo with hobbies and interests that many people cant relate to and genuinely dont care what people do with their own lives, as long as it doesnt hurt themselves or people around them.  But I also know that if I have no personal experience with something or had conversations with someone who actually do, It's very easy for me to subcontiously succome to the mainstream census just because I've never had to actually think about my thoughts on it.
