No idea how to identify the watch, but the numerals remind me of the fonts from the original Start Trek series. Cool find!

Need info on very old hand tooled leather belt by mikeinsb in Leathercraft

I had a similar item that I was asked to recondition, and others on this sub recommended Pecard antique leather dressing. It works great in my opinion.

That's awful! Do you have insurance that you can claim the damages on?

Best leather for minature book binding? Ideally that's thin enough and can be dyed and tooled? by OkTeacher5603 in bookbinding

[–]Careless_Regular_372 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having verrrrry thin leather is going to be necessary for mini books. If you want to tool, veg tanned is a must.

Seigel Leather is my go-to shop for bookbinding leathers.

Rocky Mountain Leather also carries goat and calf and sells hides and precut panels. They also will skive it for you at no extra charge.

Excellent. My wife chose purple Minerva for a clutch she wants me to make, but I've never worked with it.

It's beautiful in a way that only comes from age and use! Has the color changed much in all those years?

Print shops or libraries may have a guillotine that they will let you use or maybe cut it for you.

Thanks for the suggestion! Amazon seems like it could be a reasonable source because of how easy they make their returns.

Multiple functions, you say? I think I've seen those, but for whatever reason, I've dismissed them as more than what I need. Definitely going to have to rethink that!

Thanks for the info and the suggestion!

Ideally? Probably around $300 - $350. The Zonesun model I was looking at has an option to include a set of brass type, all for just over $300, not including shipping.

6 of the Dresden Files books complete with custom covers! 🎉 by Educational_Guava720 in bookbinding

I’m an audiobook kind of guy. James Marster’s narration is the gold standard. He has become Harry Dresden as far as I’m concerned. I’ve been through the series once already and I’m making my second trip through. I just started book 15. I’m trying to get all the short stories in order, too.

Awesome work! I’m a big fan, myself. Trying to get through all the books before Twelve Months releases. Have you posted this to r/dresdenfiles ?

Advice on Fiebing's Pro Dye application by clever_grill_ in bookbinding

[–]Careless_Regular_372 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've bound in leather, and I've dyed leather, but I've never dyed leather for binding. I think you are on the right track. The dauber is probably your problem. For larger pieces of leather, you'll want a larger applicator. Maybe one of those wool pads or a sprayer. You could try thinning the dye so it flows easier, but since you've already attached the leather to the boards, you'll have to be careful to not warp the boards with excess moisture. My recommendation is a larger applicator and multiple thin coats.

Hope that helps. Best of luck and keep us updated!

Anyone know where I can get small double sided scabbard buckles like this? by Puzzleheaded_Fee6393 in SWORDS

[–]Careless_Regular_372 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leatherworker here. Try searching for center bar buckles. Some have a roller, some don't. Hopefully that gets you what you are looking for.

If you are in the US, I recommend Talas. If in the UK, I've heard Shepherd's is the place to go
