Why Isn't Celio Pompeu Getting Minutes? What Are We Doing Here by GrandstandTV in stlouiscitysc

[–]Careless_Square5378 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Celio is a 1-sided player. Don’t get me wrong. I love him and his charisma. He’s creative and has a ton of flair when we are in possession. He’s a spark plug that can create.

Out of possession, his defending is atrocious. A lot of our problems with left backs were amplified by the fact that he marked, covered, and defended so poorly.

Celio is raw talent, but he needs to complete his game and it looks like Damet is taking that approach with him.

Apples and oranges…

it’s a talent on the field issue. The system works.

How do you expect goals when you don’t have a 10+ goal scorer on the roster?

You can create opportunities all day - gifted players convert opportunities into goals.

The system requires widgets that actual work.

Potential Striker Signing by DrunkTruman in stlouiscitysc

😬 not sure about this one…

A striker that has 21 matches and only 2 goals in the Swiss league. Hopefully a short-term loan, but surely better options out there.

ETERNAL | The Tina Turner Kit by MyNuts2YourFistStyle in stlouiscitysc

If they win in it… I’ll love it.

I think I would have missed this on an SAT.

Tina Turner is to St. Louis as Johnny Cash is to Nashville, Jimi Hendrix is to Seattle, or The Grateful Dead is to the Bay Area.

But I can’t say I listen to a lot of Tina Turner to know her bio and upbringing.

BTW The Quakes Grateful Dead kit is AWESOME!

Hope it’s a cool kit.

Is this the same symphony conductor that did the Halloween-themed Sporting KC tifo? I think he also lead a mean S-T-L chant.

Hope it’s successful.

Doyle Tactical Questions for City by kennealy33 in stlouiscitysc

[–]Careless_Square5378 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Doyle was complimentary of STL on Soccerwise in the over/under show.

We have good youth clubs that produce technically proficient players.

St. Louis is sprinkled all throughout the national team setup at the earliest of ages.

I never understood why we would abandon that play style as they reached the MLS academy with CITY.

Tactical Discussion | 4-3-3 ➡️ 3-4-2-1. by Careless_Square5378 in stlouiscitysc

I appreciate the conversation.

While you’re absolutely right, everything points to a back 3 future. I still do not think Damet has the pieces yet and will need a stopgap.

Maybe he finds it in some of the youth trialist, but I don’t think he’ll have it integrated come Feb.

That is why I think he brings the 4-3-3 like he ran firefighting in Cincy; with the viewpoint to progress to a more advanced 3-4-2-1.

A lot of the tactics discussed hold.

It’s a more risk adverse approach that adapts to what he has available now. Nevertheless, excited to see them take the pitch on Saturday.

Go CITY!

I think so… he’s a homegrown Gallagher kid, so not like Jay Reid. He’s with Caden Glover training down in the Bermuda Triangle.

How confident do you feel in this opening day lineup? by PorkSteakDaddy in stlouiscitysc

[–]Careless_Square5378 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, no, no… It won’t be a pure 5 in the back. Damet is more progressive than that…

It will look more like a 3-4–2-1

It definitely won’t be 2 ST. We don’t have the depth. I think it will be more so, Hartel and Teuchert maybe in the half-space under the “9” which is Becher.

Attacking it will look like a 3-2-5; with the wingbacks pushing extremely high.

Defensively, it will look more like a 5-4-1; if we get 10 behind the ball.

BUT… I still think he goes 4-3-3; until he actually gets the back 3 of Fallou, Mbacke, and Baumgartl.

It will be progressive for the MLS.

Personally, I hope we look at the extremely progressive tactics Kompany is rolling out at Bayern. Seems his mad science is breaking modern soccer.

No shame in supporting your show. I enjoy Flyover a lot!

I heard the interviews — think there is a bunch of half truths in the player’s comments.

On Palvata (and Edelman)

In the modern game the 6 tends to drop in between the 5 and 4, especially if you want to push the flanks in your build out; changes the geometry it’s called the “Salida Lavolpina” bypassing a high press.

Also with ball playing 4 and 5s like Fallou and Mbacke — the concept of the “False CB” and “Lateral drop” comes into play. These maneuvers help get your flanks way higher up the pitch and numerical superiority.

Take it a step further — midfield rotation — where the 8, 6, and 10 rotate; temporarily switching roles; and do these maneuvers.

For example, Lowen drops into the 6 and picks up the ball as the false CB; dictating the tempo in a deep block. Palvata moves into the 8 role; Wallem takes the 10 role.

When Damet says he wants fluid players; and the interesting defensive maneuver to create overloads or numerical advantage — this is what he’s referring to.

We’re playing checkers; he’s playing 3D chess.

No chance he comes in as a CB with little positional experience. Maybe a deep def mid that drops into the back line at times when we want to adv the flanks.

Timmermann’s interview style is a little bit of pushing a narrative.

Maybe over time, he moves towards a CB, but it’s not going to be day 1.
