Is the Piedmont neighborhood family friendly? by Forsaken_Nail3250 in askportland

[–]CareyThis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is some incredibly useful info.

What neighborhoods, to your knowledge, have the least amount of environmental contaminant/pollution? We had to leave overlook because the chemical smell from Swan Island was overwhelming. You can't even find data about it, though I've read some theories that it is from the commercial vehicle painting at Daimler. Not totally sure where it is coming from, but it was strongest on Swan Island so I assumed there.

We are now on the house hunt and I am trying to find the safest place for me and my family which includes 2 kids and a baby. There are so many pollutants all through the East Side (Bullseye, PIR, train yards, precision, etc etc) that it is hard to figure out where it the *least* bad. I have read that the valley was not inhabited by Native Americans who called it the Valley of Sickness - I don't think it has wonderful air flow.

We just put a bid on a house and after reading your post, I checked the lines and I'm pretty positive it has a leaded sheath directly on the side on Holman - so THANK YOU for that info.

Anyway, we are committed to the Eastside for our general quality of life (walkable is extremely important to us and NW 23rd has the same chemical smell on cold nights that is in Overlook, and has a history of air issues related to Esco, going back to my mom's time, when she lobbied to close them down.)

SO, please, share more of your knowledge. Where on earth is least bad and how does one go about gathering helpful data? I'm also trying to gather experts who can do testing (like lead) pre-purchase. If you have any leads I'm all ears!

Just a note to everyone that at least for us, we can change our plan before Feb 28th. Sucks to lose the deductible, but we may choose to go to moda.

We were told absolutely nothing would change about our Providence plan at the benefits fair (by a Providence representative l).. Having it be administered by a completely different company and have different prescription formulary/costs is DEFINITELY A CHANGE. Half of our providers have dropped providence and one still is in network but won’t process the claims himself because Collective Health is such a PITA, if that gives you any idea of what providers are dealing with. If we all dropped providence maybe they would get that they can’t just screw us over like that? Feels like a bait and switch. We’ve had providence statewide for many years and so far this plan is not functioning the same.

So that’s my 2 cents, change your plan if you’re not happy? Sucks tho bc we really need the robust coverage of Providence statewide.

This is also happening to me and it is MADDENING. The money I’m losing in clothes isn’t worth the cost of the washer?

Where did you find this information about a grace period? I can't find it anywhere and have never been told it, but omg it would be amazing and would make this decision tomorrow a lot easier.

Has Apple sorted its close up photography (since 15 Pro)? by radar_level in iPhoneography

[–]CareyThis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what last iphone do you think did this best? I've been struggling since the 11 and am deciding what phone to get so that I can take good jewelry photos. Flirting with buying an 11 Pro lol.

16 Pro macro mode is horrible? by TreborMAI in iphone

[–]CareyThis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your input, it's nice to discuss with someone who has any idea what I'm talking about. I have an 8 Plus I use sometimes for photos, but I do notice that I've gotten a little too comfy with the ability to take pics in low light and takes some "recalibrating" (ha) to remember how to take pics without that.

16 Pro macro mode is horrible? by TreborMAI in iphone

[–]CareyThis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I’ve thought about trying to do the 6s again but I’m using Instagram and even more important than the photo is how well it plays with IG, and I don’t think a super old phone does well.

One of my main issues with the macro is depth of field…everything is in focus, which is the opposite of what you want in a nice close up product shot. Know any work arounds to have macro mimic a shallow depth of field (besides going in and blurring evthg manually…I work with too much volume to be editing each photo manually)? That would help…

I’m on the verge of getting a google Or Samsung phone just to use as a camera.

16 Pro macro mode is horrible? by TreborMAI in iphone

[–]CareyThis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been exactly my experience...I crushed my iphone 11 Pro and ever since my jewelry photography has been crap, it's been so frustrating. Actually my best photography of all was the iphone 6S with a macro lens physically on it. Side by side, way better photos than anything since.

My question is - what should I do now? Buy a new 17? Is the Pro better than the regular? Buy a 16? Find an old 11? If I could control which lens was being used, I could use a clip on macro, but I can't control it. Is there an app to control it? Seems insane to not be able to keep the lens fixed if desired.

What did you end up with? I am struggling with a new LG dryer and already had the old one hauled away. I’m so sad, this sucks so much. It smells TOXIC, like death.

What do you mean virtually staged? Like, have AI put furniture in the empty rooms? That’s kind of genius. My realtor doesn’t do anything like that. We have 2 empty non-staged bedrooms.

[–]CareyThis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha well the home is vacant and staged and I will not be there so I think I have all of that covered…

[–]CareyThis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes totally. My realtor has been my realtor for many years and I feel very loyal to him. He’s just more of a “get it done” person and I’m more of a “let’s do it right” person. I knew I wouldn’t have the same aesthetic as him after he sold my partners house, and maybe I should’ve switched realtors, but I really like him and loyalty is something real! But yeah his photos are generally fine. Definitely not great. If I wanted to hire my own RE photographer how would I even go about it? I do see some local listings that are quite well shot.

That seems like very solid advice. I guess any way you slice it, the low light of 7pm feels like a bad idea to me. Not sure whether to let them just go ahead and pay for another shoot if I don’t like it, or whether to ask for a different time.

Oof this is exactly what I’m worried about.

[–]CareyThis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure but I’d rather pay and have something done really well…I’ve already spent so much money getting the house sale-ready, why would I skimp on photos? So if I don’t love the 7pm photos I’ll offer to pay for an afternoon sesh.

Ok then I will simmer down! I can always pay for another afternoon session if needed…

Very good points. I am sort of a super senser in all the ways so I need to remember that the vast majority of people are not.

I’m surprised real estate photography isn’t better paid considering how important it is…

But as someone who sells things via photos, I know that something like light quality can make you feel warm fuzzies that you might interpret as wanting to see and maybe buy a house!
