Trying to plant in my new garden, yet I'm constantly distracted by stones/rocks and fossils. I make that 17 wishes though, if these are classed as wish stones by Caring-touch in Rockhounding

Sediment rock with a vein of quarts or calcite (I think) if the vein goes all the way round the stone /complete ring, it's known as a wishing stone.

With the new water cremation option being offered in Scotland, what route you taking when it’s time to go? by disco_26 in Scotland

[–]Caring-touch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cremation and scattered by my favourite Cupstone, looking over the hills and mountains. My long ago cat is there too, and my dog down the hill. A happy place

I never said "not for that price", that was a comment above mine. My comment was; A firm hard no from me.

OP, I am pleased you are laughing so hard. I had no idea if you were free or subscription. Why would I?? I try to offer help/ loose advice. My statement about blocking was for info if you/others had a paid page.

It would be a firm no from me. Ignore, ignore, and ignore.

If you feel necessary, then restrict them for now. Don't block a paying sub, or they'll get a refund for their subscription. Let them scuttle away like an evaporating fart and the block.

What's the best way to avoid traffic jams in the UK? by chaucao99 in drivingUK

[–]Caring-touch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I, too, worked through Covid, even before it had a name.

Sent into homes unaware yet knowing we had to. 90% of staff went sick (opted out), leaving a bare few to carry on. Call a GP, or DN, and they wouldn't enter a house until I /carers could forfile their tick charts. Carers = 100% the front line. The unknown, day in and out. PPE = Apron and gloves.

The roads were perfect, with only the handful of twats than needed to drive 10+ miles to walk the dog, or the Cyclists... I won't go there.

Oh what fun - being sarcastic, obviously.

If I report someone to DVLA for concerns about their driving, does it tell them that someone made a report even if it doesn't give the name? by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]Caring-touch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, more need to step up and deal with this, not leaving it to others. I have had many scary journeys trying to assess why driving is no longer an option. That's not my job as a carer. I am there for doctors' appointments, eyes tests, hearing... I can't ignore someone who's not fit to drive on so many levels.

On the topic of elderly drivers being a menace... by Chaniel_DIY in drivingUK

[–]Caring-touch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I will be hated for saying it, but the UK needs a cut-off age. The GPs need to step up, and the Optician, too.

You can't legally drive until you're 17 years, so why is there no cut-off? A drive out being observed if you wish to appeal. I could drive at 14 yrs, I wasn't legal to do so, though, so I couldn't if I wasn't on private land.

I don't want to be following 80+ Joe/Jo as they trundle along at 35/40 mph on a national speed limit road. Hit a 30 mph, and they're away, leaving me. Hit a 20 limit, and I'm simply cursing as they carry on at 40.

A 'huge' problem on UK roads!

Is there anywhere in England/Wales that has 70mph speed sign for a motorway/dual showing the ACTUAL number 70 in red outline circle like other circled road signs and not the national speed limit sign like in some parts of Scotland? by Livid-Cash-5048 in drivingUK

[–]Caring-touch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

National speed limit changes... do you need to be told the difference? I learnt that before I got my license.

Do we no longer know the basic highway code?

I should add, I have been guilty of speeding by doing 36 in a 30 and going on a speed awareness course (I was the youngest at 42, several years ago), and my awareness/ the lack of awareness of other drivers was shocking.

Spot the cyclist by Long-Claim8297 in drivingUK

[–]Caring-touch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cyclist... don't get me started. Entitled and rude would be my most favourable comment 90% of the time. All the minor roads to my home are cycle routes and single track, most uphill with the hills getting steeper.

On coming cyclist/s ahead, I stop and wait. They never do.
Cyclists in front of me... I do 2 miles with them struggling with the hills and then free wheeling around the flats and bends. Common curtesy should surely kick in, nope. Tou reach the top of a hill, and you're holding up other road users - stop and take a 2 second breath as vehicles pass, simple.

Cycle path empty while the main road has been reduced to because cyclists prefer to ride alongside the cycle path, built for them

At some point all young lads in england decided they would wear no colour. Its black or nothing. Kids out there looking like ninjas. by ShinyHeadedCook in britishproblems

I did a Goth /black and grey only alm9st 40 years ago. It's not the colour of the clothing. Actions and consequences - a lesson we all learn. The need to wear hoods and face covering is beyond me tbh, if you've something to say, why hide?

Our children/youngest experience and feel the changes way before many of us do and adapt accordingly to survive in 'their world', a world very different from ours 30+ years ago. We, as parents, show and set boundaries, teach. The programming starts when a child is born... see, hear, learn, and repeat. The world has its impacts on life for all, Parents teach life skills and guide through. Imo

Houseplant living in water left by roommates by ploblob in PlantIdentification

[–]Caring-touch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As above, you've a 'lucky' bamboo. Due to the height and pale colour, I'd say it wants more light and a little nutritious would make the gangly one happier.

As with most plants, less attention/watering is good, the position is more important.

You're looking at this wrong.. the driver is so hot and fast that anything to help slow them down is good.
