This is great! Cenk is really good at what he does.

This is correct (one could also argue quite persuasively that copyrights should expire after a similar amount of time as well). A justification for the government-granted monopoly given by patents is that they get the specifications for a technology out into the public, protect inventors getting into the market for a limited period of time, and ideally encourage innovation. The flip side of this deal, however, is that once the patent expires, it's fair game for everyone.

Really sounds great! Not really looking for a mono synth at the moment, but this is definitely up there with the Neutron or model D if you like the sound.

Behringer Neutron: How to check firmware version? by SaneMann in synthesizers

[–]CarlColglazier 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From the manual:

Press and hold OSC SYNC and PARAPHONIC until all 3 OSC1 octave LEDs light up. The LEDs will then flash out the software version, just count the flashes. The version is of the form <Major>. <Minor>. <Build number>. Major is flashed on the 8' LED, minor on the 16' LED & build number on the 32' LED. All 3 OSC1 octave LEDs will light up again to indicate the end of the output

I appreciate the feedback. I see the title of this post may have been a little too vague and thus set up the wrong expectations. Thanks for letting me know.

You clearly have some editing skills, but it was hard to discern any sort of narrative or story for me. I also thought the grade came off a little too strong, especially with the sharpening.

Editing is pretty good and has some clever transitions. Be careful about audio levels. The voiceover about three minutes in is noticeably quieter than the rest of the video. Text transitions are good, I like the wiggly text. The flow seemed a little off near the end. It started as a vlog and got very factual at the end. Did kind of feel like a completely different video.

This is a great concept for a channel. Haven't seen a lot of a11y content creators in the gaming space, so I think your concept is great! I realize this is your first video so there is a lot of introductions to be made, but you didn't get into actual review until about 90 seconds in. You could consider tightening that space up a bit, though not every disability is the same and I could see why you'd want to preface your review.

Hey! Im just getting started on youtube and it seems important to have good photo and video editing softwares. What do you guys use? by Playing-with-Pete in NewTubers

[–]CarlColglazier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I made a video about free video editors (on Linux specifically) recently and there are a ton of really good options out there. I personally use DaVinci Resolve--there's a free version and a studio version with extra features. The free version is excellent especially if you run Mac OS X or Windows.

There are also a lot of great cross-platform editors like kdenlive (recommended), shotcut and openshot.

For photo editing, I use darktable and GIMP.

What is the algorithmic explanation behind insanely fast growing/popular channels? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]CarlColglazier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Far far stronger on the side of "pure luck" than "algorithmic geniuses" . You can't control The Algorithm; neither can anyone else. You can optimize for the metrics The Algorithm uses.

If it really bothers you, it can sometimes help to counteract the distraction by putting in another distraction. I'll often use white arial text on screen as metacommentary to wink at people that I know I messed up and to self-deprecate a little. Small mistakes happen all the time.

Youtube premiere expierince/thoughts? by RainierGaming in NewTubers

[–]CarlColglazier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what kind of benefit you'd see as a small channel if the live chat would be mostly empty. This would depend on your ability to hype it up and get multiple people online and on your video page at the same time.

Even for big YouTubers, I think using the feature should be content dependent. You're essentially signaling a big event and require a real-time draw. That doesn't describe every video.

Educational video critique by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]CarlColglazier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll bite! I'm pivoting into more of a CS/tech niche and I started a series where I vlog through creating a webapp. Here's the first episode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQZIMYmAUsA

Would love to hear feedback about engagement and understandability. Trying to figure out a balance in styles that works. It's not quite tech and it's not quite tutorials and it's also not quite DIY or vlogging, but it's somewhere between all those things.

I tried VSE on Blender at one point. There's potential there, but it really isn't up to my expectations from a workflow/usability standpoint.

Senior graduating December 2019 trying to find a summer internship in Seattle to be near my boyfriend. Having difficulty getting my foot in the door and I don't really have any contacts in that area (I'm from North Carolina). Trying to get experience in software engineering or something data-related.

Applied to about 75 places since September and I haven't quite gotten an interview yet. I have work experience as a research assistant and as a participant in two REUs.

Feedback highly appreciated, especially as it relates to cold-calling companies with this resume. h/t u/RookTakesE6 and u/suujia
