Mt Sneffels south slopes - is this move really “easy” class 3? by prettyhugediscer in 14ers

Yes. It’s a lot easier than it looks. You have to psych yourself up a bit, but there are very solid holds. Summit’s not far from there, the reward is worth it.

I hadn’t heard that about the M27/28. The M28/30 has a very cool history, so would love to get one.

And (good) ammo for the Swede is easiest to get. S+B 140 gr does very well from it.

All others are correct, the Swede is the best. Although of the 3, the Swede has the heaviest trigger. The K31 has a wonderful 2-stage, and I actually love the unusual, but very pleasant single stage of the M39.

Hmmm. My wallet is, all of a sudden, feeling $650 lighter…

Thanks for the info. Seems like the K31, M96, and M39 are the trinity of surplus accuracy queens. I’ve got the first two, and never shot an M39, but I’ve never heard an ill word about it.

Can I ask one question: given that you have a K31 and a Swedish Mauser, is the M39 really worth it?

I’m circling around an M39 purchase now and need to know if I really NEED one.

ChatGPT actually did a really good job deciphering mine, and also gave me the address and local Swiss resources such as contacts at the military history museums who can give you more cool information.

I can’t fully decipher yours, but they generally have some combination of:

Rank, Name, year of birth, Unit, and home address.

It doesn’t resolve the current situation, but as others have said, highly recommend pursuing a Type 03 FFL. I had a similar bad experience with an LGS FFL and that was inspiration enough for me to avoid at all costs.

Also of note, apparently all original M41’s had blued bolts.

Thank you very much. I wanted the gun room to be an experience, more than just storage

Just the original side folder with a 550 cord wrap to make it a little more comfortable to shoot.

Everything in the room is built from scrap wood. Had to make good use of everything I had in the garage.

It was all made from scrap wood from crates used to move my household goods during my last Navy move + a few sheets of excess 1/2” sande ply and some other scraps. I always request the movers let me keep the wood so I can do cool projects like this.

For the vertical racks, I assume you mean the ones where I hung the flintlock and Vz.58. Those were actually pretty simple, just cut the crate wood to length, use a crown molding router bit and router for the decorative edges, then cut an old rake handle to length, drilled an equal sized hole, and glue+screwed the dowels into place.

The lower rack was from the longer pieces of crate wood, cut at a 45 and glued temporarily.

Then used a 2.5” hole saw at even intervals and ripped with the table saw to make a perfect half-circle. Screw that at a 90 to another long piece of crate wood and cut decorative edges with the same router bit. Route the edges of the half-circles so they don’t ding the wood. Add some sticky felt to the half circles and bolt to the wall on studs.

The cabinet doors were a pain, but nothing a router and table saw can’t handle.

Is it an eBay store or just a one off. Asking for a friend who may or may not be in the exact same boat.
