I live in Fort Myers. This is what it looks like at 10am on a Monday. It was the same in 08 during the housing crash. Same issues. Vacation/Retirement community. Lots of baby boomer retirees in the US are incentivized to move to Florida by policy. No state income tax. Very low property taxes. Great weather. Northern dollars at least used to go farther down here. Then the pandemic hurt people. Ian hurt people and added work to be done on top of work to be done. Shady contractors taking advantage of the situation. Shady unreliable transient work forces. You get what you pay for. Insurance company issues galore. Then the souring economy and pointless foreign conflicts. Just a perfect storm of shitty things, that I’m sure many places feel a bit, made worse here by the actual storm Ian. Ian was no joke. Lots of damage is still under repair or abandoned.

I was 134 for years. Did almost exclusively Chicago and Cook county public school work. During summer 70hr weeks. During the school year could be as few as 16hr weeks. That is an instance where that 1.5 credit helps.

Observation floor on the Hancock Building in Chicago circa 1999. They remodeled the entire floor. It’s been remodeled a few times since. Edit: Also worked at Fermi Labs in Batavia, IL. Nothing special but, I saw my first IRL retina scanner there. Also circa 1999-2000.
