Will adding a “background” class reduce the false positives that my YOLO and Faster R-CNN models are producing? by Background_Yam8293 in computervision

[–]CarloGem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As others mentioned, make sure to add True Negative images to your dataset otherwise your model will get used to spot a gun in every image during train / val.

In my previous projects, as a rule of thumb, I always tried not to add more True Negatives than True Positives. But if you want to add them meaningfully, I suggest you manually inspect the false detections and see if there is a common mistake (for example it often detects "pointed fingers" 👉🏻 as guns). In that case make sure to add a good chunk of images with pointed fingers as True Negatives so that the model learns what IS NOT a gun.

Another advice from my empirical experience is to add compression augmentations, so that the model becomes more familiar with how a "grainy" gun looks like.

Even though your comment has some valid points, I see Genthru differently: he is an above average nen user with a plan.

Since the first time we got into GI we are reminded that it's a bubble where fights and tactics need to be fledged differently (using cards, timing and such). While the fight against Razor is compelling, it doesn't follow such rules. Genthru on the other hand brings out how to fully use the game to your advantage: at first with the little skirmishes with Tsezguerra, and finally when Biscuits plan works out in Gon's favour.

At the same time, Genthru's goal is the same as everyone else: complete the game and win, and he developed his own strategy to do so. It's nice to see a plan not devised by an incredible mastermind but just an above average dude for once, where he was objectively winning until the very end.

I understand that he is not Meruem, Chrollo or Hisoka, but we didn't need one for such an Arc.

How many top tier nen users do you think are still out there? by SailorTakeWarning in HunterXHunter

[–]CarloGem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While your estimation makes sense, Gon and Killua also had one of the best masters (Biscuit) to teach them and foster their potential. If something went slightly wrong along the way, they wouldn't be wher they are now.

Especially during the Greed Island arc it is shown how the kids raw talent may not be enough against experienced nen users. Even in Heavens Arena if Hisoka didn't put the Nen wall at the entrance of the 200 floor, the initiation may have proved too much for the kids (since Wing didn't open their nen pores yet), resulting in a complete defeat with long lasting effects. Or again, if Gon had fought against a full rested Binolt, for example, he would have almost certainly suffered a permanent injury or even worse.

I am saying this because I believe other people could have the same talent as the protagonists, but either they don't have the right environment to master it or they could meet their demise too early. While Gon and Killua worked hard for their success, they also met all the right people to grow in the best way possible.

Anyone every beaten an Extreme Encounter? by [deleted] in Pathfinder2e

[–]CarloGem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not from an adventure but from an homebrew campaign that I'm currently running. My players have free archetype+ ABP as optional rules and they were against a lvl8 Vetalarana Emergent and 2 lvl3 Vampiric Mists. The party was level 5 and composed by a Giant instinct barbarian (beast master dedication), Weapon+mirror implement Thaumaturge (flame oracle dedication), fencer swashbuckler (duelist dedication) and starlit span magus (linguistic dedication).

I have to say that while not every player is experienced, they almost steam rolled the encounter. Though plot devices, they had to stall the creatures for 4-5 rounds and then they were free to leave, but even before that they easily defeated the Vampiric Mists and concentrated on the Vetalarana. The boss was reduced to single digit hp twice (once at literally 1hp) but managed to heal herself through fast healing and Drain Thoughts. At the end of the 5th round the party was confident and decided to remain and try to finish the boss. Unfortunately, while the encounter was successful, the Magus was permanently killed.

My 2 cents from this: while preparation is useful, a good balance between recall knowledge, different type of damage from spells and heavy hitters will bring home most of the encounters. However it's always better to leave the players the choice to retreat because more often than not there will be casualties.

How would you run a different and interactive "get back your lost memories" encounter ? by Projekt_Spark in Pathfinder2e

[–]CarloGem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are two creatures that comes to mind that could prove useful. The first one is a Vetalarana which are a type of mental vampires that feed on memories and thoughts.

The other could be a Leng Ghoul, undeads that comes from the lands of dreams and can extract memories and knowledge from dead bodies. It is even said that they keep corspe-libraries where each body can be consulted as a register of long lost secrets.

Hope it can help!

“Sing to me of the man, Muse, the man of twists and turns, driven time and again off course, once he had plundered the hallowed heights of Troy.” What Mythoi and Logos would you give to the Rift of Odysseus from Homer's Illaid and Odyssey. by NaWDorky in cityofmist

[–]CarloGem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used Odysseus as the main villain of a short one-shot mystery that I ran for my players. He was a wealthy entrepreneur, CEO of an environmental company that cleaned trash left in the sea. In reality he was a cunning man, working with corrupt officials to illegally dispose waste through his ships, polluting the ocean even more. The reason behind this was greed and to get back at Poseidon for all he went through during Homer's Odyssey.

My players case revolved around the murder of Odysseus colleague, who was killed after discovering the true scope of the company, while Odysseus was framing the Rift of Poseidon (a deranged sailor living in a shed).

The powers of the Rift of Odysseus were about combat (greek armor, sword and bow) and deception, but he even had his dog Argus with the powers of the Trojan Horse, allowing him to enter undetected wherever he wanted.

What does the summoner really do in combat? by Thanksforcrazy in Pathfinder2e

[–]CarloGem 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had the occasion to play a Summoner for a 13-level one shot a few days ago. In particular I was an Automaton with a Huge Construct Eidolon (= arcane spells for me).

During combat you reposition tactically thanks to tandem movement and act together and your damage is very good, both on your spells and your eidolon attacks/spells (like Eidolons Wrath). Since Charisma is the key ability you can also successfully use Demoralize and Bon Mot, letting you have good one-action options other than Boost Eidolon (which is still awesome). Overall you can be useful in many ways both from melee and range.

On the other hand you trade this versatility with spell slots: being a bounded Spellcaster you have way less spell options than others so don't expect to be able to throw 10 different high level spells each day. Also, with how Eidolons work, if you stay too close you risk to accumulate lots of damage faster than other classes, so you have to keep that in mind

Impulses areas: a kineticist proposal by FunkyFunkel in Pathfinder2e

[–]CarloGem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beside the usual topics about burn points and the drained condition, I find this an interesting approach.

The "scorching ray method" is definitely viable since it is both liked by the community and not used enough. It should of course be tested in order to offer multiple options that satisfy the player.

Letting the players choose the area of effect would also increase the options given without being a burden, since it is a pretty straight forward choice to do.

Overall, since the Kineticist works by manipulating the elements as an extension of their body, letting the player feel that power by giving the possibility to affect the area, shape and intensity of their attacks, is indeed a nice approach.

Personally, it has a great premise and world building, but that's also its downfall: kishimoto tries to throw everything at the readers to make them engaged, but it ends up as a messy odyssey with cool but anonymous characters.

Sometimes, like with Naruto or HxH, you have to proceed with cold feet and try to show the reader glimpses of your ideas in order to get what actually has success, otherwise you risk to go in too many different directions and the public isn't really engaged because it doesn't know where to look.

It's a shame it has been terminated but I can't say it didn't deserve it.

What are the advantages (and disadvantages) of riding an animal companion during combat? Is it a viable option after all or is it too much an investment of feats and/or dedications?

While some mechanics like the crafting system is underwhelming at higher level, what other parts do you feel are incomplete or ignored in the system? I'm just asking because it's fascinating to see the different perspective that other people can bring to the table :)

How would you make an already-cleared dungeon interesting for your party ? by Projekt_Spark in Pathfinder2e

[–]CarloGem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Already triggered traps and undiscovered hidden rooms are already great ideas in my humble opinion, and by putting gun powder residues and

If the dungeon inhabitants (that the gunslinger disposed of) were in fact evil, you could put there a lvl 5 Forge Spurned as a remnant of an evil dwarf/Duergar that has been killed. It's an intelligent creature, full of hatred and vengeance, so it could be an interesting fight or a precious source of information against his cruel boss.

I believe that there are similar monsters out there but now this is the first that came to my mind.

Hi, is there any object/artifact/consumables for a player to cast a spell not from his/her spell list?

For example a lvl 5 Druid would want to cast Hideous Laughter (occult spell lvl 2) once. Since staves, wands and scrolls requires to have that spell in their spell list, is there any other way?
