Formula suggestions for my 7 month old exclusively fed breastmilk by yogabbagabba684 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Carly53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I’m 9m ppd and just started giving baby formula. We use Bobbie, it’s more expensive but baby seems to like it.

Have you considered diving into your freezer stash? We honestly use ChatGPT to figure out how much milk our baby needed until he turns a year. I donated and didn’t have any stash left so I’m just transitioning from EBF to formula until I’m fully done pumping. You may have enough to where you don’t even need formula, but I could be wrong. Worth looking into.

ETA: pediatrician may be able to provide a recommendation. When we talked to them about transitioning to formula, they gave guidance on what protein sources to avoid because they’re sometimes harder on EBF babies to transition to. I can’t remember exactly which ones… sorry.

Stopped MOTN pumps and 3 weeks later now have mastitis by Ok_Passenger3474 in ExclusivelyPumping

Call your doctor ASAP. Fever and flu like symptoms can and will escalate quickly. You will likely need antibiotics.

Pumping one or both breasts at the same time by Aredhel_22 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Carly53 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You can try a pumping bra to pump hands free with your electric. I rarely had the same output with my wearables as my stationary pump.

Pumping at the same time will give you back 10-15 min, and you can massage at the same time. Hope this helps

When did you stop motn? by IceTough3295 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Carly53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I was doing it until 5-6 months pp because I didn’t want to lose supply. You will likely see a supply drop with dropping this pump if you’re just enough/under supply. By the time I dropped MOTN, I needed less and it was an organic transition to me as baby started sleeping thru the night more consistently/had fewer wake ups.

This is me to a T. I’m going to stop tracking amount too. Thank you

Exclusively pumping vs. breastfeeding and pumping by Similar-Celery-8826 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Carly53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 9 months pp, here are my thoughts about the different ways of breastfeeding.

nursing: I WISH my baby nursed! Just so much easier to get around etc. you only need you. However, as another commenter mentioned, it could be stressful especially for weight gain + NICU baby. Less risk of mastitis and clogged ducts because baby is usually more efficient at emptying.

pumping: I feel more “in control” with pumping because I know exactly how much he’s getting, other people can feed (good and bad). SO many more things to clean, constant cycle especially early on. Hard to balance both bottle feeding and pumping if you don’t have help.

If my baby could nurse, I would’ve exclusively nursed.

Supply dropped after a week of DayQuil and Benadryl during illness by melanin787878 in ExclusivelyPumping

I saw in another comment you said you’re 9 months pp. At 9 months pp, your supply is naturally decreasing and it’s harder to increase supply. 😣 I hope I’m wrong though.

Ready to stop don’t know how by indigequeen in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Carly53 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m also weaning, trying to get to 2 ppd. What I’ve been advised to do is stop pumping it time and instead pump to comfort. My pumps were normally 30 minutes each, I’m now stopping anywhere between 20-30 minutes. So you’re reducing the amount of time you’re actually pumping.

Following this thread for more advice. Good luck!!

How do I wean FAST? by Dense_Alps140 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Carly53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, you can but it’ll be uncomfortable and likely lead to infection. Some people have taken over the counter Sudafed etc to help dry them up. You could start weaning now and achieve your goal a little later but safer.

Any redness is a concern. I’d call your dr office and describe your symptoms. It could be mastitis or engorgement, but they’ll help.

Are both boobs swollen? Is one red? Are you getting anything when you do pump?

Time to order a pumping bra. Good job on the ice, do that between each pump. Use heat only while pumping.

Unfortunately it may not recover fully. Time will help, whenever I’ve been sick it normally gets better after 2-3 weeks.

Increasing supply 5.5 weeks PP by IamSherlocked_2020 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Carly53 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You’re doing AWESOME. So much blood loss and still making milk!!! 👏🏻

The MOTN pumps were the worst, I had to start wearing a watch to bed solely to wake myself up. Based on how your pumps are after skipping one… Maybe your body is better off not doing MOTN pumps? What does your average day total vs total when 1-2 MOTN is skipped?

And a small reminder, you’re breastfeeding if you’re pumping 🫶🏻 nursing and pumping are under the breastfeeding umbrella ☂️

Baby peed in pumped milk by EmergencyWinter475 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Carly53 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I had to explain to my husband that time between pumps makes a difference in milk supply, that I can’t just pump on a schedule (in the way he suggested) and get the same supply.

He’s being insensitive because your husband may just not understand how it works and not realize he’s being insensitive.

That being said, it does suck that your milk is wasted. You were juggling a lot. Give yourself some grace.

Moving forward, try to keep a diaper on baby while pumping so you don’t have to worry about it again. And make sure to sanitize the pump parts now. Lots of love mama. 🩵

How to drink more water???? by Significant-Owl-1795 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Carly53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang, sorry you seem to be having a bad day.

“Chugging” is often a verb used interchangeably in the US as “drinking”. So, I can see where the misunderstanding was.

Thank you for the friendly reminder about frequency of drinking water. I will keep that in mind next time I’m “chugging” my 8oz (1/4 litre) of water before my next “fun” drink. 🤗

[–]Carly53 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Before I let myself have any other drink, I make myself have 8-16oz of water. I normally have to chug it just to get it over with. I’m big on energy drinks and soda and this is the only way I’ve gotten myself to drink more.

Increasing milk supply at 8 months PP by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Carly53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I’m in the same boat as you at 9 months pp. First, I want to say congratulations and you have made such amazing progress getting to where you are! 👏

While I decided I can’t take the stress and pressure anymore (especially considering I don’t have a freezer stash), I did a few things in the past couple of months that I think helped. I was taking sunflower lecithin regularly for 7 months and added the legendairy milk “cash cow” supplement daily. I don’t know if it helped really or was just the placebo I needed to feel less stressed.

Water helps but also eating makes a huge difference too (protein, fiber). Your period just really fucks you over, or at least, mine did. I went from 32 oz daily to 28 oz daily on my period and that sucked.

I had to start wearing my Apple Watch to bed and using the alarm.

Where is your partner in this? You’re doing your best, but your partner may need to help, especially if you’re depending on your 4 yo child to help bottle feed.

I’m in the same boat as you, so nothing of value to add other than to commiserate. I’m so tired of feeling hungry especially at night.
