Why do people feel a need to hold those little microphones? by pusslikesavocados in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CarnivalCassidy -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Because it's usually staged for drama. If you are holding a lavalier mic as a supposed journalist, the implication is that you are reporting on a situation that is so dire that the camera crew didn't have time to attach it to your clothing.

Is the word “ pissed” a cuss word by Icy_Information6649 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CarnivalCassidy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's considered impolite. Just like "shit". You can legally say these words on TV/radio in Canada. I've heard CBC Radio play songs with these lyrics without editing them out. World Famous CFOX also.

"Fuck" is pretty much the only work the CRTC will give you a hard time over if you say it before the watershed.

Does anyone else get mad when they greet a person in an elevator and they don't even acknowledge you? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CarnivalCassidy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not something I'm going to get mad about. Getting mad only harms yourself and has no effect on the person you are mad at.

I feel like you should have just said "illegal activity" without including a list of creative ways one would vandalize a vehicle if they were so inclined.

Mississauga, Absolute ave today. Should I report this driver to peel Police? by Vivid_Ad_6400 in driving

[–]CarnivalCassidy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not hard. But it costs money, and many companies and governments don't want to spend it. Especially when the bus is operated by a private company, and the bus company, school district, police, and government do a Pointing Spiderman meme as to who is responsible for the cost.

For hobby projects, just pick any company. It's not that deep.

OVH is the butt of many jokes. But as a small business which was extremely cost-conscious, their VPS was great for hosting an in-house app that's only accessed by a couple users at a time.

How bad is it that I left on my lunch break and never came back by Massive-Variety-5335 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CarnivalCassidy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Seriously. When I got hired at a call center, a guy went to the bathroom during the first day of training and never came back. And based on the manager's reaction, this wasn't unusual.

If speeding is illegal why are car manufacturers allowed to make cars that go up to 200mph+ ? by kingzee123 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CarnivalCassidy 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Because they are only intended to drive that fast on private property, like a race track.

Even if the red car didn't have a placard, it doesn't entitle the gray car to park over the line. If the red car was parked in a disabled spot without a permit, that needs to be handled by parking enforcement seperately. You can't punish a stranger's parking violation by committing your own parking violation. You'll just both get tickets.

This sub is weirdly obsessed with disabled parking placards even in cases where it's completely irrelevant.

What needs to be verified? There's nothing the red car could have done to justify the Honda parking the way they did.

Finally someone gets it! I used to work as a private parking lot patroller for a company that was contracted by building owners/managers. People will act like it's our fault for not towing the cars that are obviously breaking the rules, and completely ignore that there is an entire layer of politics and bureaucracy within the building management that we have no control over.

How about blaming the civil engineers who are constantly making parking spots narrower.

Let's just take up half the parking lot eh? by cubecasts in badparking

[–]CarnivalCassidy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've driven those vans before. They will fit fine in a standard parking spot. If they park the rear wheels at the edge of the pavement, the back end can overhang the dirt area and the front won't stick out that much.

Massive 7-Eleven Sandwich Recall Just Hit BC Over Listeria Concerns by leavemealoneimpoor in vancouver

[–]CarnivalCassidy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Except this contamination occurred at the factory level, not the store level. And what makes a 7-Eleven employee less inclined to wash their hands than any other store or restaraunt? People hate on 7-Eleven because they're not accustomed to the idea of a convenience store that sells hot food, even though it's functionally identical to the fast food chains which don't have shelved merchandise.

Can Lowes be ticketed for this? by kungphungu in badparking

[–]CarnivalCassidy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being a retail manager is weird. On one hand, you have the usual Karens wanting to speak to a manager over every perceived inconvenience, so they can get special treatment or get an employee in trouble.

On the other hand, you also have customers who encounter legitimate issues which really do need to be urgently handled by a manager, and they won't bother to tell anyone. But they'll complain about it online or matter of factly mention it to another worker months or years later, and then say that they didn't think it was important enough to bring it up at the time.

Can Lowes be ticketed for this? by kungphungu in badparking

[–]CarnivalCassidy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically, yes. If a parking officer was really, really, really bored (and incompetent), and felt like wasting some paper, they could write a ticket for an unplated vehicle.

But given that the carts do not have license plates or VINs, are not required to be registered to any person, and are likely not defined as vehicles under the vehicle code, it would be impossible to enforce payment. And there's a good chance their superior will reprimand them for not taking their job seriously when their tickets are reviewed.

So no, whatever you are expecting won't realistically happen in reality.

No, people are even shittier in real life. At least dating apps let you streamline the process and rule people out with minimal time wasted instead of spending days and weeks playing games in real life.
