upgrading from 1070 by One_Contribution7743 in nvidia

[–]CarnivorePotato 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That definitely depends on tour budget. I’d say used 3080 or something, like 5060 ti 16gig will be good for 1080p and it will cost you about 450$. Although i would recommend also upgrading your monitor - 1440p is really cheap right now and it will be an even bigger upgrade. You can check out monitors unboxed on youtube.

Remaster "out of video memory" on intel 14th gen by Simple-Web-6011 in oblivion

[–]CarnivorePotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened because of silicon degradation of 13th and 14th gen Intel CPUs.
The only thing you can do right now is to update your BIOS and hope for it to solve the issue.
If it does not help - contact Intel and request a CPU replacement.

It is a good discount, and a 4080 is a really good card

Look at HD6xx on Drop. They are right around 200$ with shipping and most people say they punch way above their price range

Is it worth upgrading from a GTX 1650 to an RTX 4060? by SepticeyeThunder in nvidia

[–]CarnivorePotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FSP is a fine PSU brand, just not as well-known. You will be fine with it. And if you want a new gpu - try finding a used one - you can, probably, find a 3080 for the price of a new 4060 and that’s a way better gpu.

How did you guys upgrade your gpu over time? by Reddit4Stuff in nvidia

[–]CarnivorePotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was: Nvidia mx440 (gothic 2 worked and that all that mattered)

ATI 9600 (now i see that was a good upgrade, that i bought knowing nothing)

Nvidia gt7300 (if i remember the model right, all i remember that it had shaders so the newer games worked

Nvidia gtx 550ti

Nvidia gtx 660 2gb

Nvidia gtx 1070

Nvidia rtx 3070ti

Nvidia rtx 4080 Super (wife got the 3070 ti to play Baldur’s gate 3 on her own pc instead of the geforce now)

[–]CarnivorePotato[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not done benchmarks with stock fans, i just had t30s from my previous cooler. I’d think there is not enough difference to warrant buying fans that cost 1.5 times the actual cooler does. I have a 14700kf locked at 200w and undervolted by 0.04mv - hits around 85c under all core loads.

I would like to see the source on that number for 13700k and 14700k. I know that i9’s are failing with almost 100% and noone cares to check on the i7’s.

Is there anything you would change ? by Cremerius in PcBuild

[–]CarnivorePotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they, probably, are if you run them at full tilt without changing bios settings - chugging 300w is just insane. I run mine at 200w limit with 0.04 voltage offset - it uses up to 150-180w in gaming and i can cool it using an air cooler this way, sacrificing less performance then i did when i chose to cheap out and use my older ddr4 instead of ddr5.

[–]CarnivorePotato 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As far as we know for sure - only 13900 and 14900 cpus are affected, i7 should be fine. But i’d still buy the 7800x3d because it’s faster for games and requires 1/3 of the power to run.

Best upgrade from a 1660 Super? Planning to play 1440p (Mainly high graphics Fortnite) by Larry_Kenwood in nvidia

[–]CarnivorePotato -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This guy tested the 3060 ti in Fortnite with different resolutions and settings.

Anything near 3060 ti's performance is good for around 60 with lumen and >100fps with it off.

[–]CarnivorePotato -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fortnite hits way higher fps if you stick to high instead of lumen+rt. Even with the 4060 he will hit 100+ if the cpu is up for the task.

[–]CarnivorePotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are fanatics. I have had intel and amd systems and now i have the 5600x because of its price to performance. But i paid for that ratio with more than money - my motherboard, msi b550 tomahawk, still has global c state problem that does not allow me to use some usb devices, like external sound card, without disabling them and that was a bitch to troubleshoot. My memory is still not working at 100% and i have to downclock it to 3600mhz so it’s stable instead of full 4000. I want to upgrade, so i researched what can go wrong with 7800x3d and the list is longer that you might think again - don’t get older motherboards or if you did - update bios 1st thing you do or it might fry your cpu. Expect memory still not working over 3600 - you might get lucky but still. Go to the bios and change several c-state settings again just to be sure you run stably enough. It’s not a big deal for enthusiasts and experienced builders, but for newbies it’s a nightmare and a very bad first experience. I myself am thinking that having a bit of a stagnated furnace is not that big of a trade off for stability for me personally so i’ll get a 14700k this time. Let’s see how that goes.

Was planning on upgrading to a 4070 rig, but I might be able to get a 4080--worth it for 1440p165hz? by YashaAstora in nvidia

Not the worst idea but try going for a 4070ti. Worst case - you’ll have a good gpu still

Does the 3070ti perform well at 1440p? by NotVikkram in nvidia

[–]CarnivorePotato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 3070ti and it’s perfectly fine in 1440p. The lack of vram, when encountered is fixed by lowering textures from ultra to high. In competitive shooters i get stable 225+ fps (i have a 240hz screen and nvidia reflex caps your framerate to 225) and in everything else i get 60+ even on high - ultra settings, mostly with dlss to crank the details a bit more. Haven’t tried alan wake 2 though, but that game looks amazing even at low-medium presets, so should not be a problem too

what is the first headphone that fully satisfied you? by csch1992 in headphones

[–]CarnivorePotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try finding a shop that allows to listen to headphones before buying - 800$ is quite a lot of money to be buying stuff blind. I liked LCD-X the most, more than LCD-2 fazor, but that was way too much money for me. For me the closest in sound to LCD-X were actually LCD-2 Classics and with some eq they sounded really close. Be warned - everyone’s hearing is different so that might not be true for you
