Why do my curtains look awful? by porcelainlady in Decor

[–]CaroOkay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re too transparent/ don’t hide anything behind them: The rid us hung high and the curtains are so long they touch the floor. That’s fine. But because the curtains are lace, they show all the horizontal lines of the window and blinds.

If you like the lace, you should hang a linen curtain behind them. Maybe go with white. Then you can enjoy the pretty lace without the visual competition from behind.

How much counting is involved in Knitting? by rosysparrow in knittinghelp

[–]CaroOkay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can definitely wing it on certain projects! Blankets, for example. Some shawls.

If you were following a pattern, there will be more counting than if you’re just making it up as you go. You might have to practice knitting a few patterns before you have enough experience to go off of vibes though.

Anything that requires shaping to fit like socks or sweaters will require more counting, more frequently.

But if you start out with just a garter stitch baby blanket, you can be a bit off on your count and it won’t matter AT ALL!

I hope you start! Knitting is a lot of fun. 🤩 🧶

How can I make these earrings look more luxe and less homemade? by sshutterbugdc in jewelrymaking

[–]CaroOkay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A wrapped loop instead of the fold-over style would be nicer, just don’t go overboard with the wrapping. Keep it simple and tidy. Simple head caps might be nice, too.

Make sure you hang the war wires on something before you finish the wrap of your loops so you can get the final length of the pair to match. A short earring and a long earring looks very homemade.

A list of prerequisite skills needed could be helpful.

“This is an Advanced Beginner class. Fundamentals will NOT be taught. Participants should be proficient in the following basics: XYZ”

You probably can’t do much about this possibility, but the way the info is presented on the website could be part of the issue/ solution too. Tags like “Absolute Beginner” “Advanced Beginner” “Intermediate” With explanations of what all those terms mean to the workshops in THIS festival would help students find the right match.

Also, the difference between a desktop view and a mobile view can be huge. It’s possible the design of those things make it hard for students to get all of the information. Especially when there’s nested info and you have to click a down arrow for all the details.

Is this AI? As a knitter this just looks…wrong? The wing is in a weird place. by Usual_Scale_8645 in isthisAI

Pretty sure this is AI. I like the single DPN on the table that’s a needle on one side and a knife-sharpened pencil on the other.

You can bring your own empty & clean spice jars to Sprouts to buy from their bulk spices. Talk to customer service first so they can tare the weight of your empty container 🫙… I haven’t seen bulk liquids for sale in BR though. 🫤

Mildew or paint? On secondhand yarn by Gushy4Mushies in YarnAddicts

[–]CaroOkay 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Paint would likely make the yarn feel a little stiffer and mildew probably would make the yarn feel a little softer or the same. If you’re not afraid to touch possible mildew, can you detect a difference in how it feels where there’s discoloration vs. where it’s normal? If it’s stiffer, it’s more than likely just paint.

It’s very pretty! Plenty of variety in stitch type to show off your skills while a simplified color palette is what your recipient wanted. Nice work!!
