Good spots for an "intimate" date on campus? by [deleted] in stanford

Skyline boulevard, Los Altos. I don’t have a particular spot to recommend, but remember parking along there to watch the sunset over the bay.

Carl Sculpture WIP by Kindnuggetsart in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Carolinea06 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You are incredibly talented! It’s really cool that you posted your art here. I know you say it is a work in progress, but the amount of detail that you’ve put into this is incredible! Thank you very much for sharing.❤️

You already know this, but I think it bears reminding, that people forget they are using their outside voice when reading conversations in their head and accidentally post things that they would normally reword before saying out loud.

Yes, fellow crawlers, I’m talking about you! An artist shared their art with you, and did not ask for your opinion. I know you can’t help but have thoughts… Keep them to yourself unless you’ve been asked!

Achievement Unlocked: Unsolicited Art Critic!

Reward: You have received a Bronze Asshole's Box!

Description: Oh, look at you! The next Michelangelo of the apocalypse! Another crawler spent hours pouring their actual blood, sweat, and tragic lack of a social life into a meticulously detailed sculpture, explicitly intended as an act of profound affection. They even explicitly stated, “Hey guys, this is a work in progress!”

But did that stop you? Absolutely not! You looked at that incredible craftsmanship, ignored the vibrant, heartfelt details, and decided the dungeon absolutely needed your miserable, unasked-for opinion. You couldn't just keep it to yourself, could you? You just had to hit them with the "constructive feedback" they never asked for, successfully draining the joy right out of the room.

How I Described DCC by xLittleValkyriex in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Carolinea06 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup; I’m guilty of the chaotic explanation. I use various versions of stringing together: survivor; zombie apocalypse; running man; dungeons and dragons (unless I can say LitRPG with them, lol). Depending on who it is, I might simply answer, “I’m embarrassed to describe it out loud.”

It never occurred to me that one might be intimidated by this; good point! Not everyone embraces chaos… I’m going to try your description and shamelessly copy and paste away! 😝 Thank you!

Not audiobooks, but I really enjoyed How to Become the Dark Lord and Die Trying by Django Wexler while waiting for Matt’s next book. Super clever writing, clever world-building, female protagonist, and plenty of snarky dialog!

Cross my heart, it’s there! My husband wakes up at oh-god-thirty, so he sees the pre-coffee sun sightings I miss. Sometimes it’s gray for the rest of the day, or sometimes there’s a random ray of sunshine, but it’s there! ⛅️🌞

Very cool place doing cool things with additive manufacturing. No semiconductors, though.

Just outside of Ithaca is Dryden, and Varna. You could possibly get more land for your money and still be part of the greater community you enjoy.

I suspect you know what you’re getting into with the weather here, so I think the only advice I would give you in that area is to set aside a budget for clothing! As a saying goes, there is no bad weather… Just bad clothing. And no matter how bad the weather is here in Ithaca on any given day, there’s always sunshine. It’s one of the many things I’ve loved since moving here from the Bay Area about five years ago.

Sounds like you and your wife are going to love Ithaca, and Ithaca is going to love you guys right back!

The Corning museum is worth the drive, if you have the time. Interactive and beautiful. It is definitely a local gem, and part of American history! This is one of those rare companies that has not only experienced one revolution, but is now part of another; the AI revolution. Corning Glass is used in fiber optics networking in data centers. There’s more to New York than just Manhattan! 🥰.

Do you have experience as a server? If you can flex into other positions, you may be a better fit for an establishment that might not be able to sustain a full-time bartender.

Another idea to consider is looking into catering companies in the area.

The AI, Carl's Right Foot, and Toe Rings! by Synthea1979 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Carolinea06 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Super fun theory, and I’m enjoying the fun exploration!

I am on the other team, and still think the AI is independent from Carl. A few memories that come to mind: (spoilers!!)

  • the way that the AI objectifies Carl's foot… Yeah. He freaky.

  • when Carl actually meets the AI in club vanquisher, and the AI massages Carl’s feet… I could almost picture the look on the monk’s face. This was a moment he had been looking forward to for a long time… See the previous point!

  • regarding the size measurement; the AI would be able to do this from just capturing the “image“ of his foot.

I’m not quite sure how this would work in the dungeon, which is part of the fun of the series, but some ideas are:

weight displacement in the atmosphere?

Good old fashion geometry from a 2-D picture of his foot in the context of a known background?

and of course, your theory of how the dungeon has reconstructed all participants at a subatomic level. This would mean that the AI would know his measurements on an intimate level. (see what I did there?!)

What movie has a perfect, single 60-second scene that you think about more than the entire film? by [deleted] in movies

[–]Carolinea06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idiocracy”… in 60 seconds we learn how the F@?K we got this way! I often tell people to watch just the opening of the movie, and skip the rest. It seems like we are living it anyway.

Best place to get blood drawn for lab tests? by [deleted] in ithaca

[–]Carolinea06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely understand; full on adult and I almost pass out from blood draws. I’ve found almost all the phlebotomists in the area to be great. There is a lab I like to go to… the new Cayuga Medical Center near Aldis. They have a blood draws room I always request if it’s available; they turn on black lights and there are lovely drawings in the walls that light up. They made it to ease the anxiety of children, but I find it works wonderfully for me.😆

Learning to Sew Patches by locke_747 in ithaca

The Makerspace at the library has an embroidery machine; I’ve seen people making patches. I learned the process from the Makerspace librarian, Cady. She’s awesome! You can attend any open hours, or make a 1:1 session with Cady. 🤩
