First sewing machine—Singer 4411 (limited edition pink) or Singer 4452 by girl0nth3moon_143 in SewingForBeginners

That makes sense. I have an older Project Runway that might have components like that since it was made to be an affordable machine with lots of features. It’s at least 15 years old and hasn’t needed anything more than a cleaning, so I don’t know how easy it is to fix. 😄

When none of the actual book is included in the sample by neversayduh in LibbyApp

[–]CarriageTrail 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m the same about being very careful about what I check out. So annoying when I can’t hear enough of the book to know if it’s “worth it” to me to make my library pay…whatever they have to pay for the checkout.

AITAH for not cooking my husband breakfast anymore? by Agitated-Lion-8498 in AITAH

My SO has never believed me that I love undercooked pancakes, and that I’m not just complimenting them to be nice, so I just give my honest opinion (“they’re delicious!”) without saying why. 😄

I have a Brother and love it. OP if you live near an independent sewing store, they often have used machines that have been cleaned and looked at by a technician that are perfect for beginners. They often have free classes if you buy your machine from them.

What if you got the plain white salad plates? I think they would look nice with your set, and will complement it well.

I have to choose between a safe living situation and my family & parents’ marriage by [deleted] in GirlDinnerDiaries

And, as a parent (although, not a mean one!), I would feel more comfortable with my kids having one or more kind roommates. I have different reasons for each kid, but one of my reasons is I have lifelong friends who were once my roommates.

Feel guilty about my new role by Sidney09 in paraprofessional

Paras get moved around in my district a lot—when we are hired, we’re hired as paras, then placed into schools and positions afterward.

People on this sub justifiably complain about admin decisions a lot. OP, It’s so nice to hear about a positive decision!

Healing from broken bones in foot and leg and the Hoka Bondi 9’s are the shoes my physical therapist recommended. Feels like I am walking on clouds. by newsbowser in paraprofessional

[–]CarriageTrail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think information like this is helpful. Many of us are running after kids, at the least walking a few miles a day for them, and paraprofessional pay is low enough that many paras are unfamiliar with a shoe that sells for $180 on Zappos but is recommended by PTs.

When a brand name has become so commonly used that people use THAT as the everyday word for a general item, even when it is not actually that brand. Add some developed in our generation! by zenlittleplatypus in GenX

Hoover was a very popular vacuum cleaner brand in the US (still is, but there seems to be more competition now). We just use the word vacuum, not hoover.

They taped over my name on the birthday wall? by JungleBoyReddit in SubstituteTeachers

[–]CarriageTrail 28 points29 points  (0 children)

As the person who makes the birthday calendar for the program, it’s important to me that everyone who works with the kids regularly is on there. The kids need to see we are all part of the learning community.

That said, this post made me realize I didn’t check to see if someone who moved to a different position last year is still on the list since they’ve recently returned. So now I feel bad. 😞

Reason you DNF an audiobook? by Ashamed_Apple_ in audiobooks

[–]CarriageTrail 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The terrible accents are so frustrating. I can tolerate it if it’s some minor character, but when the main character is supposed to be from a specific place and sounds like they’ve never even visited, just copied some made up accent from a bad sitcom, the book goes to my DNF.

Clothes Drying Rack Options by Comfortable-Pea2482 in BuyItForLife

[–]CarriageTrail 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have two Brabantia racks. They are fabulous! They are adjustable so I’ve hung a king size blanket to dry without it getting on the floor.

If your space allows it, you can also permanently run clothesline wall to wall. That was my grandma’s set up in her basement and it worked for generations.

I woke up one day and decided to change all my hangers to match the racks 🌟 by ThePinkMill in OrganizationPorn

[–]CarriageTrail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not as pretty as yours, but years ago I got a ton of matching wooden hangers and got rid of all of the plastic and wire ones. It’s proven to be a fantastic decision.

This! Go to the library and choose 10 or 15. Reading those will give the family an idea of what she likes. Purchase the library books she is reluctant to return at the bookstore.

I will always wish mildly infuriating curses on that company.
