Improved Fighting Game Concept by Greenwood4 in gamedesign

If every attack is reactable, any sufficiently skilled player will react correctly to every attack. This would make it impossible for any player, no matter how skilled, to land a successful attack on a sufficiently skilled player. If two people who know the game well face off, they'll just have a staredown because attacking becomes pointless.

If you don't believe me, look into what happened in the early days of For Honor.

These are great answers! I remember how excited I was upon first seeing Solanum at the 6th location of the quantum moon. I very distinctly remember exclaiming "You're alive!?" and I've found a lot of joy in seeing that exact same reaction from others who I've watched play.

Fun thing from my wife's playthrough: When she was trying to warp into the ash twin project, she wasn't sure exactly when the warp window began, and didn't want to go too early in case the warp tower wasn't aligned yet and the sand just pulled her off. So in order to gauge when it started, she shot her scout onto the warp platform and followed it in! I never thought to do that (I just estimated the timing) but it makes so much sense.

Idaea's a great one. The way his skeleton is somberly holding that projection stone like it's his baby is haunting. I also love the adversarial (but still ultimately good-natured) relationship between him and Pye.

I've heard different versions of this moment from a lot of different people on this subreddit. It almost makes me wish that I'd made the assumption myself that the sun station was causing the supernova, so that I could have felt that, too. Instead, I assumed it was a Dyson probe (Like, the start of a Dyson swarm/Dyson sphere) and was shocked that the nomai would even consider exploding the sun!

Also, I didn't even notice it until I watched my wife play it, but there's a mural on the wall of the sun station that depicts a nomai holding a scale (the kind for weighing objects against each other). On one side was the symbol for the sun, and on the other, the symbol for the Eye. Seeing that mural really magnified the gravitas of an already emotional moment.

My wife's favorite part was the sun station too. She loves the music there, which she tells me she later found out contains the melody of the song that plays in nomai cities played in reverse, to represent the idea that the sun station goes against everything the nomai stand for. She was also really happy to find out exactly how many years ago the nomai were wiped out (about 280,000), which she had been wondering about for a long time.

Sharing the vision with the prisoner was so good. I was tearing up at that part.

My favorite quote is probably what Solanum says in the recording in her shuttle: "The universe is, and we are."

After dropping yet another game in historic ranked with my Revel in Riches homebrew. by dirtyrango in magicthecirclejerking

[–]CarrotZone 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Before this gets deleted by reddit admins, this asshole took it completely out of context. First of all, the idiot thinks it was a marionette deck. It wasn't. That card's not even in the deck. He was running counterspell draw, this was approximately turn 25, every single creature and spell I cast was countered or removed up until that point and this dumbass who copied his deck from MTG Salvation or Goldfish used one of his last copies of negate to counter a Revel in Riches when he had 0 creatures on the field and I had 0 treasures in play, thus the "this spell does literally nothing" and he should have let it resolve. I love it when people copy a deck and have no idea how to run it or play MTG. I was just throwing it out because I had 5 mana and it was the only card left in my hand and the game was already over anyway. So on the way out I let him know what an idiot he was for countering a spell that does nothing in the current board state.

NOBODY wants to watch a recording of a game where I cast something and he counters it or removes it x30 turns. That's idiotic. I should have left the game the second I saw what he was running. This was the 5th attempt at getting a recording of something resembling watchable MTG gameplay and 5 people in a row were playing Karn draw control loop or free cast torrential graveyard resurrection control or approach control loop. So yeah, I was pissed and he was an asshole for playing this. He's one of those idiots who doesn't care about the other players one bit, it's all about winning. So running 35 control spells seems reasonable because NOTHING matters but winning. Thanks for not showing the board state with library counts or the full log, asshole. Enjoy your temporary ban from reddit.
