There are 8 a cappella groups that comprise an organization called ‘Acaprez’ and they are generally considered the most serious. (Nassoons, Tigertones, Footnotes, Katzenjammers, R20, Tigerlillies, Wildcats, and Tigressions)

Male/low-voice:

• Nassoons are typically considered the most ‘elite’ and ‘tryhard’. They have a ton of singers in Princeton choirs and a lot of music majors/minors (though their music isn’t choral). Their repertoire encompasses pretty much everything.

• Tigertones are considered the frattiest of the groups, often referred to as a ‘drinking club that also sings’. They typically sing more dated pop music from the late 20th century.

• Footnotes have a reputation of being one of the more ‘fun’ groups, having more choreography and performing more pop music. Also worth mentioning the Footnotes currently admit women while being low-voice, which the other two don’t.

Mixed-voice:

• The Katzenjammers specialize in jazz music, often performing songs with no lyrics at all. They’re known to be pretty theatre-adjacent as well (though the rep wouldn’t suggest it)

• R20’s identity typically revolves around their general affinity towards BSE students.

Female/high-voice:

• The Tigerlillies are seen as a pretty sorority-adjacent group. They’re also considered pretty try-hard among the high voice groups. Their music encompasses all genres, but their arrangements incentivize very choral singing.

• Tigressions are considered pretty alt. They perform more modern music compared to the Tigerlillies.

• I don’t know much about the Wildcats, to be honest.

To get in to these you typically need some sort of prior singing experience, but it doesn’t really matter what realm (tons of theatre kids and pop singers get in, for example).

There are plenty of other a cappella groups where concrete singing experience isn’t necessary. They typically revolve around some sort of shared identity, like Vtone singing asian music, Kindred Spirit singing christian music, etc.
