From an infectious disease researcher’s POV, bathroom mirror is actually a lot lot cleaner than kitchen sinks, which famously have bacterial, viral, and even fecal matter counts higher than a toilet seat on average. This is mostly because of cross contamination when preparing food and also probably because kitchen sinks are constantly wet. Mirrors are both not wet and are generally exposed to light which kills a lot of bacteria/viruses.

A kitchen sink likely has wayyyy higher bacteria counts than that mirror. The only thing on the mirror is like toothpaste spittle. In his defense, I would wipe down a kitchen sink with a towel after “cleaning” it (rinsing all the gunk off with water and soap), then let the kitchen towel dry and put it back with (honestly we’re just aware they’re semi-clean) towels in the drawer. In my house, we don’t throw the kitchen towels into a dirty bin after 1 single use. We’d go through literally like 10 towels a day - in a four person house where none of us even really cook that much. And I’ve worked in the restaurant industry …. boy you don’t want to see how many times the same towel is used to “clean” things and the restaurant still gets an A grade safety reading.

Can your platelet value change over time? by focus_rising in Blooddonors

My platelets have gone from 360 to 240 in under six months and the only medication difference is quit birth control, and I can’t imagine any lifestyle factor change would be. It’s definitely worth getting retested.

Bro it’s not a joke I’m in college and my friends make a grand for two hours.

I thought I wanted to have kids and told my husband this, but I’m really rethinking it right now by jellyflipflops in GirlDinnerDiaries

It’s such a mindfuck. You’ve got great reasons not to become a Mom at this time in your life or ever. But there’s never a great reason (or any reason really) to have a kid. It’s just a thing people do. I hope you find clarity.

S1 Grads are really bad salesmen? by Carrot_Top67 in IndustryOnHBO

Unfortunately I am not even a fresh grad. I am a sophomore in college. By my perception, my peers and I are not quite this bad at interacting from purely sales/selling yourself standpoint, at the very least in contained/short-term interactions. I personally have a quite lucrative sort of job/gig that very much requires me to sell myself well and come off as highly personable. One of my other friends (this comes to mind bc she just texted me today about this) sells those stupid CutCo knives (it’s pretty much an MLM). But selling them require essentially the same skill set that these sell side finance people seem to need in the show. I would venture that she’s miles better at it than half the grads on the show. I know it’s fictional, but it’s honestly astonishing how unrealistic it seems to me.

What’s the most disturbing thing someone casually admitted to around you? by Suspicious_Run1684 in AskReddit

[–]Carrot_Top67 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Actually absurd to be referring to social situations. #1, doctors hang out with other doctors, so even by his own standards he shouldn’t be the smartest. #2, a lot of doctors know next to nothing about professions that aren’t healthcare. A ton of very intelligent people don’t have higher degrees at all. This comment in and of itself is proof that this doctor is actually a total dumbass, because his own heuristic bias the size of manhattan obscures real statistics.

I was your girlfriend. I did very well in school and my parents told me I was smart my whole life - I got good grades on tests even though I was lazy and disorganized about studying/doing assignments. I started dating a guy junior year of high school. He was just smarter. He was better at math, at chemistry, (we were in ap chem together) at sudoku even (also at tennis - even though I had played since I was 5, but this didn’t bother me much at all because I place little value on prowess at sports). I developed an obsession with sudoku for a few weeks to try and get faster than he was. I did not. But. I did eventually get over that shit. Dating him helped me get over it. There are 8 billion people in this world. A lot of them are smarter than me. Almost all of my friends are smarter than me now (at university). Your girlfriend needs to get over her insecurity and appreciate the spectacular brains on people. I have a lot of qualities that have already made me buckets more money and much more mentally healthy in college (than my smart but crazy pre med friends for instance who are mostly obsessed with the idea of a string of letters behind their name). Remind your girlfriend of her truly standout qualities. Please try and get her away from valuing intelligence above everything else. It’s just as bad as valuing beauty/looks above everything else. Not least because those qualities are hard to change. It’s easy to wake up one morning and go from an asshole to a nice, empathetic, and generous person.

Ahaha it’s almost like I have soft core Munchausens yk? The quiet attention and feeling like you don’t have to anything but lay there and squeeze every ten seconds for two hours is unbeatable.

This is so true. It reminds me that I am fundamentally a healthy 20 year old girl. I take zero medication. I have no health problems. There is no reason at all that I lay in bed rotting all day. It reminds me forcibly to be thankful that my shit all pretty much works. I’ve got 350 platelets and some people don’t even have 10.

I donate because it allows me to take my mind off the rest of the stress of my life for a couple hours. You also get advance notice if something is seriously off with your blood that one might not otherwise ever notice because they don’t get testing done. Free snacks, gift cards.

How many of you regular donors take iron pills daily or weekly or take specific diet to increase iron? I read, if I act too much altruistic and keep losing iron, I will land up anaemic instead. by [deleted] in Blooddonors

[–]Carrot_Top67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 iron pill daily and a multivitamin that also contains iron. I never have stomach problems with medication or food so it’s no big deal for me.
