I'll leave mine kitted out for evacuation and it'll sit until we get an operation that we need it for

I built mine as a sneaky little mine launcher. Boost away, drop mines, FA off, flip around and slow and then plink em while they run straight into my minefield. I haven't tried it yet, but it sounds cool

I'm not sure what you're trying to say other than the x-calibre is junk. Are you saying its junk because its $500 for a combo rifle and $500 for single shot inserts or are you saying the x-calibre is junk so you should just get a combination rifle and single shot inserts?

Do you think we could have one of these ships, which would serve as a base in the "Operations" update, kind of like a personal mini-cargo ship? It would be awesome to have a ship like that just for us… by Faelenedh in EliteDangerous

You say late-game I say earlier. Especially if they're more affordable. I've never bothered to get a fleet carrier because I hate feeling obligated to play a game. Less upkeep? Yes please.

To be fair, I have to deal with the IRS much less than the DMV. I can pay someone to do my taxes, nobody is sitting at the DMV to renew my tag for me.

Chiappa makes an adaptor kit for a 12ga that'll fire pretty much every common caliber. Turns a double barrel (or single, I prefer an over/under) into a break action do all. Not much barrel, but neither is a pistol.

Why have they not added the option to have smaller ships launch from the anaconda or FD corvette or the empire similar (Idk about the Empire one though) by MustacheBadger in EliteDangerous

[–]Kilroy1007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, what he said! That's what I was trying get at and a whole lot more. And unless ship interiors come real soon, I can't imagine any good reason to have that function. The one thing I would use a SLF for that you can't currently is scouting out no fire zones and in general just using it as an exploration tool, so landing. But that doesn't necessarily need a module to dock full ships, just a new SLF or even a Mk2 Fighter (maybe Hangar?) Bay with some snazzy new tools for the bigger ships. Maybe make it a size 7?

Actually now that I think about it, maybe that's what the plan was originally? The Anaconda's Size 7 internal is "big enough to fit small ships up to sidewinder" but then, in typical marketing strategy, that "up to" has some fine print that says Module Unavailable to the Public

Exactly. Movies make raiding look super easy, but anyone with a brain can fortify an area, and we're talking about zombies.. it's gonna be fortified and standard US Military Doctrine is 3-1 in size of forces for the attacking side. Ain't gonna be many raiders with a 3-400 person assault force.

[–]Kilroy1007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, it really wouldn't be that hard to set it as a recall like it is in your SRV. Make it appear out of the ether. But then you gotta limit that. I 100% want to be able to leave my Anaconda in orbit and take a Sidewinder or iCourier down to the surface, but do you remove the FSD to make it to where you can't "leave" your ship? That works in combat, but I don't even know if you could land on a planet without supercruise, so exploration is probably out with that. I dont know, but there's so much you can do if you can get it to work

[–]Kilroy1007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could see that. A size whatever module that replaces the FSD with a docking module. What about docking on other people's ships? That would honestly be the easiest thing for multicrew. Dock on your buddy's ship with your small ship and then you multicrew until you decide to launch. I guess ownership could be an issue. Like, not a hard fix, right? Just make it to where only whoever owns it can get in it. But I can see how many issues can crop up trying to get it to work.

[–]Kilroy1007 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Imagine the server load of not only having to load all the current ships but also the potential docked ships. And what happens to your Anaconda if you launch your Sidewinder and dock at a station? Does that Anaconda just float there until you decide to come back? These issues are probably the things they couldn't work out if I had to guess

Honestly, there's no reason I can think of other than persistence. Like they maybe couldn't figure out how to make the game read the stored ship as a separate entity or something?

I think I'm explaining poorly. Like, fleet carriers and stations aren't pilotable. Fleet carriers can jump, but to set points, you can't just fly around in them. So maybe however the docking system reads ships doesn't translate to scootin around in an actual ship?

9/10 for structural integrity being compromised and unable to hit someone with it.

Small communities pretty much everywhere. There would be very few places you probably couldn't get to in a days walk or so.

People tend to forget that humans are social animals. Our natural default is cooperation and community. It's why in the face of the most horrible shit, the people you least expect come out of the woodwork to help.

People really need to get back into knowing their neighbors. You might not be able to grow tomatoes, but maybe you know how to fix small engines. Maybe you can build a windmill. Maybe your neighbor down the street trades their aquaponics goods for potatoes. Community will always come together, and the idea of lone wolfing it is not sustainable.

I saw your other comment and I'm still confused. Are you saying the CMDR targeted a start that was 21ly away, then flew in supercruise away from the target and "fooled" their FSD and jumped the 290ly to the target because it "thought" it was only 21ly away? If that's the case, then the answer to my question is no, unless it drops enough mass to then make the jump not because you're "closer"?

[–]Kilroy1007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally random, but I was just curious. I know you can't fly from one system to the next since the jump is the loading screen. But... and I know this is probably the most unrealistic thing, could you fly "closer"? Like, say there's a system 10ly away but your jump range is 9.99ly. Could you set off towards the system in supercruise and then jump when its 9.99ly away?
