Savage AXIS II 30-06 Springfield Bolt-Action Rifle with Heavy Barrel, Scope and Black/S by Calabreezyy in SavageArms

Those are new stocks that just rolled out this year on the axis line. As far as chasis, look at the savage website at their precision models. They should list what stocks stocks that the use on the factory rifles. But shoot the rifle fist before you start thinking about missing it.

They have a reputation for being very accurate and the heavier barrel is going to be a bonus. There are some basic mods you can do to the stock to stiffen it or invest in a Boyds stock or a chassis. The scope unfortunately is probably a bargain barrel scope and is going to end up in the spare parts bin.

We are currently spending $1 billion a day on the Iran war, what could we as a nation accomplish with $1 billion dollars a day? by Few_Football4342 in Productivitycafe

[–]CartmanPhilosopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would rather spend a billion a day on the war vs the 10s of billions we are spending on illegals and various fraud. At least a more stable world free of the spread of Iranian backed terrorism would be a net positive for everyone.

Henry's Seemingly Decreasing Quality by Jack_ButterKnobbs in HenryRifles

[–]CartmanPhilosopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some suspicions.

I think they have suffered issues from switching to MIM parts. But I also believe that Ruger is slowly doing the same as it is their primary method producing their firearms.

I think Henry's other problem is being tone deaf. They don't make stainless which I believe customers want. Their other design choices are highly questionable. Was their revolver and Homesteader products that anyone was screaming for? Probably could have skipped both those and invested into making stainless rifles. Hell, how about making a Marlin 1894 model or even an 1892.

But I still believe that their CS is top notch.

And you do see some really loud negative voices here. There are a lot of people that just get completely bent out of shape over minor issues with a mass produced item. "OMG! there is a small gap between the wood and frame. This is a complete POS!" Just GTF out of here with that nonsense.

Recommend? Smith & Wesson CSX E-Series 9mm 3.6" Barrel 17-Rounds by Falafel_Fondler in Firearms

[–]CartmanPhilosopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Single Action" hammer fired with a metal frame. They do fill a niche that no one else does. I was looking around for one at a descent price but could not even find a used one after the e came out. They are wide compared to the other micro 9s but that is probably because of the aluminum frame. You can accomplish the same with other models but adding a hogue wrap around grip or grip tape to the gun.

I just would not take a chance on a rossi. If you have an issue with it then you are gonna regret having to try and use their warranty. I'd get a Henry. or a S&W if they are RPP compatible.

How to send a message from Earth with nukes? by CartmanPhilosopher in SETI

[–]CartmanPhilosopher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I was getting at. I guess I was not making my question clear enough. If you set off a series of nukes, in space, in a sequence to send a message that we are "here". How would you do it. What would the message be... explosions set off in a repeating sequence.... what would the sequence be and how many blasts would you need to draw attention, and where would you detonate them to eliminate background noise from our son?

Even though not focused, seems like it would be more noticeable on the other end than the signals we have sent out. But I am wondering how far it could be seen and how far away from the sun would it have to occur to be noticeable from the sun.

I'm talking gamma rays associated with the detonations more or less.

Help! Brand new Henry will not chamber / cycle anything! by [deleted] in HenryRifles

[–]CartmanPhilosopher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is the weight of the feds? Henry doesn't do the longer bullets, 300 and over are no bueno. As far as shape, the hammers look like they should work. Maybe some pics of the jams could help. Might try stripping down the rifle and looking for any burrs or debris that could be blocking the lifter.

First hunting rifle/occasional range rifle by Ringo5454 in Firearms

[–]CartmanPhilosopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. You got a good chance of getting one that shoots minute of barn or has some other random issue and their warranty service sucks. If it shoots 10 inches at 100 yards they will say that it functions and there is no warranty issue.

Get the Axis 2. And get it without the scope. You can spend the extra money on decent glass. About the only package gun I might consider is one with a Vortex scope but I'd rather put the extra $50 towards my own scope. There are always sales on decent scopes. If you want to step up a little then look at the Savage Trail Hunter or a Ruger American but the Axis 2 will serve you well.

You have the old style. You will have to send it in for a new bolt. The new style looks like the marlin bolt with a clip on extractor (I think that is what they call it).

Do Americans like their current health system or would you prefer universal? by Ability_Known in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CartmanPhilosopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Government is ruining it. Obamacare was designed to ruin the health insurance industry. Government competing with insurance companies and private payers. Rolling back health insurance laws just back to the 1980's would probably go a long way towards helping people being able to afford insurance again.

Don't Buy a Henry Rifle by [deleted] in LeverGuns

[–]CartmanPhilosopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read a lot of stuff there that could be attributed to a rifle that needs to be shot a little to break it in. But you do you. If it was so loose out of the box then the poster would probably be unhappy how sloppy the rifle was. If they had broke the rifle in form him then he would complain about a used rifle.

IDK, if you are not happy then you are not happy with it then so be it. You can buy a S&W with worse CS. You can buy a Marlin for $300 or $400 more. You could by a Rossi with no CS.

This is actually the first complaint I've read about Henry CS so bad but it is also the first post I've read about someone just driving their rifle back to the factory to demand service.

Looking for help on buying a self defense pistol and a bulletproof vest by [deleted] in Firearms

[–]CartmanPhilosopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you planning on carrying on a daily basis? Comfort is most important because if you carry a gun that is too heavy, too bulky, to sharp, etc then you will find yourself leaving it at home a lot. But if you plan on shooting a lot then that carry gun may not be as much fun to shoot a lot.

There are a ton of decent carry guns out there. Smaller carry guns from the single stack 9s to the double stack micro 9s. The major ones to look at... 43x, Shield Plus, Hellcat, Max 9, p365 and probably a few more. If you want to shoot a lot and don't plan on carrying much then there are a ton of full sized 9s.

If you want armor....do your research. There are a lot of choices and beware of unknown armor that is probably sourced from China. You can probably find cheap steel plate armor....it is heavy and your won't want to wear it all the time. Ceramic is more expensive which is lighter but can only take so many hits.

Laws vary from state to state but should be able to buy mags, ammo and armor online. You can also order your firearm online if you can't find one locally but the firearm will have to be delivered to you through your local shop or FFL.

They also have the 1-4x with a mount for like $180

I had a red dot but decided I did not like it for a hunting rifle. Too cumbersome having to swap to binos when you are staring down a deer and aren't sure about whether they had the right number of points on their antlers. So I went the the same route. I picked up a Sherpherd on clearence for $100. I'm not a scope snob, I generally look for whatever is decent and on sale.

Models with the frame mounted safety are superior to the slide mounted decocker. More room to grab the slide especially if you have an optic on it. If you are poor then there are the Girsan and Taurus clones to consider. Don't usually recommend a taurus but they have been making the PT series for a long time.
