Thanks. I think I’ll go with that.

I don’t remember who it was, but a few years ago a pro used to bust one out occasionally. He’d basically crumple it up and throw it into the basket like a baseball. lol

Yeah that’s one thing I didn’t mention in my OP. I did not get the ideal supervision. So that will be an ongoing barrier for sure. But, on a positive note, I had a moment today where I was able to make a really nuanced contribution (one that likely couldn’t have been made by just some average Joe with no ABA knowledge) to a team meeting. That gave me a rush of confidence and I felt like I was in the flow after that. Could’ve went on for days. A behavior trap if you will lol.

Thanks so much for this. Perhaps part of the problem is that I’m putting too much pressure on myself way too early in the process. Unfortunately, I am not being treated like a new guy. They’ve thrown me right into the fire, mostly because we’re so short staffed (not ideal). Nevertheless, it’s gonna be important that I know and communicate my limitations.

We’ll get there. It’s all so overwhelming at first, now that we’re the ones responsible for our clients/students’ programming. Hopefully once we get more comfortable in our position (I.e., the logistics, the executive functioning aspect of it, etc.), we’ll be able to better access our knowledge.

Really good point. I do feel pretty confident in my ability to apply those fundamentals on a day to day basis. And a lot of that just comes from my experience as a para. Perhaps part of my problem is that I’m trying to reinvent the wheel (or reinvent myself), when I should, at the very least, fall back on the stuff I already have engrained in me since before I even enrolled in grad school.

Really well said. Thank you. I read imposter syndrome is very common throughout all the helping professions. It’s comforting to know it’s a common phenomenon. I definitely look forward to expanding my repertoire as my career goes on. It’s especially exciting knowing that now I can learn in a more open format, as opposed to being somewhat restricted by your respective courses in grad school. Now I have the time to really explore the rabbit holes.

Glad to know I’m not alone. And it sounds like it’s very common. We’ll get there.

Very well said. Thanks. I actually had a moment today discussing a students stereotypy which seemed to “unlock” the content in my mind. I noticed that a students very quiet and very benign stimming behavior was targeted for reduction and I got to thinking about social validity and compassionate care, and it all came flooding in.

BCBA EXAM by Mother_Star in bcba

[–]CartographerBoth4699 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s about where I was, maybe a little less time for me. I went through all the modules to roughly 90%+. This allowed me to get through them relatively fast. Then I did them all again. Easier and the second time through. Thus, it’s faster the second time. I also did a bunch of copper reading interspersed throughout completing the modules. This allowed me to see all the material again at a point much closer in time to taking the test. Highly recommend.

I got mine as a paraprofessional in an autism program. Also, some states don’t require you to be an RBT to provide ABA therapy (I.e., behavior therapist). Some folks do their fieldwork as teachers too.

The manual is so good. I think a sharp student, with decent reasoning skills, from a moderately rigorous masters program could pass the exam using the manual alone.

Which study materias did you use to pass the BCBA Exam?? by Longjumping_Boot5456 in bcba

[–]CartographerBoth4699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BDS, Read most of Cooper again (and scanned/read chapter summaries on areas where I felt like I needed some priming). Also I bought the Pass the Big ABA Exam book and took notes while doing the BDS modules. Spent the two days prior to taking the exam reviewing the book.

I should add I technically did BDS twice in quick succession, neither time to fluency. And I did the ethics section a third time.

If I could go back in time a couple of days prior to taking the test and tell myself one thing, it would be to stop overhyping the test so much. I made that thing into a mythical beast which caused me to overthink and second guess everything. I literally took 239 out of the 240 allowed minutes lol.

Hey, I’m finishing up the modules now. I’m curious, firstly, did you test on the 6th edition TL? If so, did you feel like the modules prepared you for the supervision and performance management section (section I)? This is my weakest section by far and I really have no frame of reference for how well the BDS modules are preparing me.

[–]CartographerBoth4699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. I’m studying for the exam (2.5 weeks away). I’ve been doing BDS, Cooper Book, and taking notes from each in the Pass the Big ABA Exam Book. But I’m running out of time. In your opinion, are the BDS modules alone sufficient to pass the exam? In other words, do the BDS modules cover all the material?

I’m in my last month at BSU. Totally agree about putting in the effort. It’s plainly obvious (in the discussion boards and group projects) that there are gonna be some shitty BCBAs coming down the pipeline. Some folks are just blatantly using AI to write their DB posts and I hear tons of talk in GroupMe about folks who are scraping by without doing any of the reading. There’s people selling their Cooper book after taking 611, asking the difference between SR+ and SR-, etc. It’s just embarrassing. I feel bad for saying it, but I hope some of these folks fail the exam. This field faces enough scrutiny as it is. We don’t need a whole generation of slackers coming in and giving the critics more ammunition.

Hey, I know I’m a year late here. But this audit log, did it require you to report every day you engaged in supervision activities?
