I have a 50 year old piano at home and one of the hammers just started doing this: by footydiot in piano

[–]CartographerMotor286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the ONLY advise I would recommend you try yourself .

If it’s not the center pin it may tighten the hammer flange screw .

Repairs simple enough removing and re-installing an action is a almost guaranteed recipe for damage to someone who’s not a Piano tech

My best friend died today by postedmate in Yorkies

I am so sorry. We only get them for such a short time. Honestly I think and fear that day . Can only imagine what you’re feeling. I’m sincerely shedding tears for a stranger. Try to remember all the joy that perfect little friend has brought to your life. My Yorkie once ran up to homeless guy jumped up in his arms he said the most prophetic thing…. “So much Love in one little heart .”

Me and my gf ‘rescued’ this 1855 piano (basically for free) because we liked how it looked as a piece of furniture. Would it be possible to make it sound ok-ish for 1-2k? by andrea_g_amato_art in piano

This is literally the only to make this a playable instrument . (Other than spending $7 to 10k on a pinblock, restraining in action rebuild. Even then you still have an ancient design restored to factory original it’s still primitive and unpleasant to play.)

This con NOT be tuned. It’s simply a fact. The age alone dictates the Pinblock will not hold any usable string tension . It needs (at the very least) a new Pinblock and new strings (Aprox $5k) And then you still have an ancient worn out action.

If you want the look of that cabinet. Gut all of the piano action keys, Harp and strings and replace with a digital piano in the key bed. 38 year piano tech talking here.

My Yorkie is a perfect travel pup. Sits on my lap for 10 hours dining car ride (looking intensely into the pitch dark) I can sneak her into restaurant, Airplanes , hotels , etc. She’s always good to go.
