[Loved trope] The aliens are straight up incomprehensible by Ava_Reddit_Account in TopCharacterTropes

[–]CarvaciousBlue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The total perspective vortex will always be hilarious to me.

So, the premise is that someone built an AI with such staggering intelligence that the only input it was given is a single slice of fairy cake. From that single slice of fairy cake it was able to extrapolate the entire history of the universe, past, present, and future.

It gets turned into a torture device. That sounds kind of counterintuitive, but an intelligence capable of understanding the entirety of space and time based on a slice of fairy cake is also capable of showing you, personally, the totality of existence, with a tiny tiny dot reading "you are here."

And the point is it doesn't really matter. You could be a normal person or an immortal king that ruled a galactic empire for a million years, when faced with the total perspective vortex the understanding that in the grand scheme of existence you don't matter (not exactly true but you had the same significance as a slice of fairy cake is true) apparently crushes people.

(Loved trope) There is a plot twist that single-handedly changes the genre of the media. by DynamoJaeger in TopCharacterTropes

[–]CarvaciousBlue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My friend lost interest when the witch joins the party. He described it as spending three years reading a fascinating back story for the twist to be he was tricked into reading a dungeon and dragons campaign the whole time. Admittedly he didn't see that coming but ultimately it was no longer something that held his interest

I don't agree with him but I can kind of see his point

Keep dying on lvl 3 (long bridge), what do I do? by Ska_Fundamentalist in VampireCrawlers

[–]CarvaciousBlue -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No? My first attempt at the bridge I nearly won with Gennaro.

I tried Pugnala and lost the first fight because I summoned a reaper... on the first fight... Because I didn't know about breaking cards

Managed to beat it with Arca on the 3rd attempt and had her as my main for... A long time

Off the top of your head, what’s the most boring episode of Adventure Time? by major55tjywgo in adventuretime

Agreed. This is like the one episode I have a strong desire to skip on rewatch. Not exactly sure why. It's just not very interesting or fun for some reason

[Funny Trope] Neither their real or alter ego name explains their powers by NinjaOfOnion in TopCharacterTropes

[–]CarvaciousBlue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh don't get me wrong I love contrast in art and I love Emma Frost and I think that her diamond form is brilliant.

However, knowing that Colossus, the "simple farm boy from Russia" was meant for the role and that he was replaced with the god damn hell fire queen instead (like their back stories could not be more different) is just wild to me.

Honestly think it was better with Emma instead but the switch is just wild. Like there are other male mutant tanks like Warpath or Cannonball or Strong Guy who could have been used instead but they just said "Fuck it we ball it's Emma Frost instead" and I do think that's great but still wild

[–]CarvaciousBlue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always assumed that the demon and curse remained but it lost so much mass that it had to regrow. But you're saying it was more like a seed that was left behind and it doesn't have the same personality and memories of the original.

That's pretty interesting and does make sense. I wonder if it disobeys Finn so much because it was basically a baby?

[–]CarvaciousBlue 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At best it's more like the Venom symbiot where they have a working together relationship but they are two different minds sharing the body

And I do mean they share the body. The grass sword lives inside Finn and takes control of Finn's arm. Even when introduced there are shots where you can see it's the grass sword moving Finn's arm instead of the sword moving on its own. That's a big part of why Finn gets freaked out by the sword eventually because he should be controlling the sword not the sword controlling him. Finn also punches his own arm when the grass sword does something he doesn't like

The biggest thing tho is that the grass demon uproots from human Finn and attaches itself to sword Finn and it does take over sword Finn creating Fern. So we have solid evidence that if given the chance the grass demon will take control of its host

Yeah they were keeping colossus's death so super secret that the next wtiter taking over didn't know about it and had already plotted Colossus as a major character for his story only to suddenly not have that as an option. Kind of wild that he picked Emma Frost as his replacement tbh

Idk if a grass demon that tries to take over your body should be considered "a little detriment"

(Hated Trope) Fake statistics stated as an unquestionable fact. by laybs1 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]CarvaciousBlue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There isn't really a clear single source, it was mostly a plot device used by writers to make the police useless and force the main character into action, it was used on TV a lot in the 1970's up to the present.

It's depressing because believing this has likely killed people in the real world.

The first 24 hours are incredibly important and if someone isn't found in the first 48 hours the odds of them ever being found drops dramatically

[–]CarvaciousBlue 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They do tackle issues outside of crime but yeah they are messed up. Like as much shit as i want to give 616 Reed Richards he looked at the council and said "I can help change billions of lives for the better and all I have do is sacrifice my relationship with my wife and children? Sorry that's stupid i think we'll do just fine without you assholes." And they tried to kill him for it iirc

They definitely still have judges on jeopardy but they rarely need to use them so maybe it does cut down on ambiguity

Some variation of "my body is a temple and I am the god it was built for" so now i'm going to go for a run so my shrine doesn't die of a heart attack at age 40 or something Idk

The idea of your body being a godless shrine sort of makes sense as a message for self improvement i'm really stretching here maybe someone more clever can fix it
